Beim hereditären Angioödem (HAE) kommt es nach Triggerreizen zu schmerzhaften Schleimhautschwellungen, die die Haut, die oberen Atemwege oder den Darm betreffen können. Dominiert bei Frauen die abdominelle Symptomatik, wird die Erkrankung oft als Endometriose oder auch als Reizdarm fehlinterpretiert - was nicht nur das Leid unnötig verlängert, sondern auch unnötige invasive Diagnostik evozieren kann. Seine Ursache hat das HAE in einer genetischen Störung des Bradykinin-Stoffwechsels.
