What was your first job as a journalist?
As a freelancer my first paid article was at Soldier Of Fortune. One of my prouder moments.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes, I was born before the digital age.
How is social media changing news?
In my opinion it is putting a lot of bad information and falsehoods out to the public. Social media has changed news for the worse.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
I don't have one.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
I like to share information and knowledge with others. If my work can inspire or help someone that is good enough for me.
What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?
I really don't pay attention to that.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
As a freelancer I pick what I want to do, enough said.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
Word and a basic laptop. I'm a simple man.
What's your favorite social network?
I do not use social media tried it once didn't like it. It's a time sucker. My time is valuable to me.
Who do you wish followed you?
That is not important to me. Giving good, quality information is.
Why did you become a journalist?
I have always enjoyed reading. And just decided to bang the keys one day and it went from there.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
No,I didn't have much school spirit.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
My first combat experience in Iraq. I originally wrote it on my phone sitting in the woods. It was my first published story.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Just write and submit pieces to outlets. Never give up on yourself, someone will give you a chance.
When's the best time to pitch you?
Anytime, I'll do my best to get back to you.
What's the best pitch you ever got?
Never really got one. I make my own path and choose my own direction.
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
"This is a once in a lifetime chance." If I had a dollar for everytime I heard that.

Water
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Doing outdoor activities or at my day job. If not there, at the range.

Really don't have a favorite.
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
Is it is for ex-military folks only. It is geared towards people from all walks of life.
