Folding Dynamics and Its Intermittency in Turbulence
Abstract Fluid elements deform in turbulence by stretching and folding. In this Letter, by projecting the material deformation tensor onto the largest stretching direction, we depict the dynamics of folding through the evolution of the material curvature.
First-generation Mazda RX-7 | Buyers Guide
I have an '83 GSL that I bought 3.5 years ago at 43K and it now has 49K. Bone stock, original engine, everything works fine except that the retractable antenna just started to go, zero rust California car, always garaged, original paint that looks great, and all it has needed is a new alternator and battery. The only down side is that it's an automatic but it satisfies my rotary lust (I put 287K on a FC 5-speed and 244K on a FE 6-speed).
VW introduced the latest version of its forbidden Golf R Estate
Yes, VW makes a wagon version of the Golf R. No, you can’t have it if you live in North America. Volkswagen recently announced the new 2022 model of the brand's Golf R Estate–essentially the wagon version of the Golf R, at least according to the spec sheet. Like the Golf R, the Estate is powered by a 315-horsepower, turbocharged four-cylinder engine mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, with power sent to all four wheels through VW’s 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system.
In Hindsight, a Ford 308-Powered Porsche 944 Wasn't the Best Idea
The Porsche 944 is a bit of a dice roll for Lemons racing. On one hand, it’s got a lot of the stuff that makes for a successful endurance car–good handling, strong brakes, enough power to stay out of its own way–but on the other, it’s relatively complex and potentially expensive and/or difficult to fix. If you burn up the clutch in your Mustang, you can practically collect the change from your ashtray, make a trip to AutoZone, and have the car back on track before the session ends.
Vintage Views: Volvo 240
[Editor's Note: This article first appeared in the April 2014 issue of Grassroots Motorsports. Some information and pricing may be different today.] “There are a lot of high-performance Volvo shops in Sweden,” says Ben Weaver of R-Sport International. “It’s like a Mustang or Camaro is here; it’s their muscle car.” That probably sounds weird to the uninitiated.
Project BMW 318is: Running Against an M3 | BMW 318is | Project Car Updates | Grassroots Motorsports
As promised, when we got our BMW 318is project properly finished, we found ourselves an E30 M3 to run against. We set the showdown for VIRginia International Speedway—not just any track, but one of the fastest tracks in America. This epic showdown on both the track and the roads around VIR was driven by none other than BimmerWorld’s James Clay. Clay is an IMSA driver, so he knows a thing or two.
