Melissa Rippy says “Elsie, the Little Free Mobile Library” was taken from a parking lot Monday night. A tip on Tuesday night led to its discovery near Peña Boulevard, in Denver. For four years, the trailer has served as a meeting place for children and adults. It houses between 2,000-3,000 donated books.
Colorado group rescues more than 150 dogs from alleged puppy mill
COLORADO (KDVR) — A Colorado puppy mill rescue group recently pulled 165 schnauzers from a property in southwest Colorado in what it called one of the worst cases it’s ever seen. National Mill Dog Rescue brought the dogs to its Peyton location to be de-matted and checked out by a veterinarian. They continue to settle into their new environment. The rescue’s founder and executive director says they were initially called in by the Bureau of Animal Protection.

Shortly after, Acosta said she was notified by Brighton Police Department that her daughter had been hit while riding her bike.

Todd Melka says he was working from his home, at about 1:37 p.m., when he heard and saw the strike hit the tree in front of his neighbor’s home, across the street. In the video, you can see a vehicle driving past, as the flash pops. A man and a woman, seen leaving the house, said they and their cat were OK. A spokesperson for South Metro Fire Rescue says they were not called out to the neighborhood.
Firefighters rescue two hikers in Clear Creek Canyon on Sunday night
GOLDEN, Colo. (KDVR) — Golden firefighters confirmed they were involved in the rescue operation of two hikers over the weekend. A spokesperson for the department says the hikers were on rocky terrain near Tunnel 2 of U.S. 6 in Clear Creek Canyon on Sunday. Both individuals were then escorted to the highway and to safety. The incident comes at the outset of the summer season when hiker rescues tend to increase.

GOLDEN, Colo. (KDVR) — A red flag warning remains in effect for a stretch of Clear Creek, in Jefferson County, which runs through Golden. A red flag has been posted atop the Washington Avenue Bridge in downtown Golden and warning signs are posted up and down the creek trail. Because of a high cubic feet per second rate, a red flag warning prohibits any swimmers or inner-tubers from entering the water. For the city of Golden portion of the creek, the red flag warning is issued by the chief of police.

CENTRAL CITY, Colo. (KDVR) — A group of college archaeological students has uncovered a bit of the past, just outside Central City. For the past three weeks, the archaeology “field school students” from MSU Denver have been digging in an area just to the west of the old mining town. The assistant professor in charge says her crew is sifting through an area where 5 brothels once stood, in order to learn more about the town’s “red light district” history. The homes ranged in time from 1870 to 1912.
