OU Softball: Maya Bland Plays Hero's Role for Second Time This Week
Maya Bland sent a two-run pinch-hit home run over the right-field fence in the top of the seventh inning, a blast that put Oklahoma ahead en route to a 5-1 victory at Alabama Saturday. Stepping in against reliever Jocelyn Briski with one out, Bland drilled a 1-and-2 pitch left out over the plate for her third home run of the year.
OU Baseball: Oklahoma Drops Game and Series at Alabama
A big early deficit proved too much to overcome Sunday and Oklahoma lost both a game and a series as a result. Alabama rode an 8-1 lead through four innings to an 8-6 victory in Tuscaloosa, meaning OU also dropped the weekend series 2-1. The Sooners won rubber games against South Carolina and Mississippi State to begin life in the SEC the past two Sundays, but could not sustain that success this time and fell to 22-5 overall/5-4 in league play. The Crimson Tide improved to 25-4 and 6-3.
OU Baseball: Oklahoma Scores Pair in Ninth to Beat Alabama and Even Series
Oklahoma broke a tie with two runs in the top of the ninth inning and held on to defeat Alabama 6-5 Saturday, squaring the best-of-3 series heading into Sunday’s rubber game in Tuscaloosa. Sam Christiansen led off OU’s ninth with a single to left field off Hagan Banks. Dawson Willis greeted Crimson Tide reliever Braylon Myers with a perfect bunt in front of home plate, which he barely beat out to put Sooners on first and second base and nobody out.
OU Baseball: Oklahoma Tops Mississippi State to Take Series
Two SEC series and two series wins for Oklahoma. Exactly one week after taking the rubber game in a best-of-3 set at South Carolina, OU beat Mississippi State 7-3 Sunday in the same scenario at L. Dale Mitchell Park. That allowed the No. 10-ranked Sooners to take the series after dropping Friday night’s opener 2-1 – they outscored Mississippi State 13-11 Saturday – and improve to 20-3 on the season. They are 4-2 in SEC play. The Bulldogs fell to 15-9 and 1-5.
OU Softball: Kasidi Pickering's Late Blast Powers Oklahoma Past Missouri
Kasidi Pickering swung at a riseball late in Sunday’s tie game at Missouri, and Oklahoma exhaled. The swing produced a go-ahead, two-run home run well over the center field fence in the top of the sixth inning, sparking a 5-1 victory and tilting the three-game series in the Sooners’ favor after they had dropped Saturday’s middle game 3-1. That defeat was OU’s first of the season and halted a 31-game winning streak. So Patty Gasso's bunch started a new winning streak on Sunday.
OU Softball: Oklahoma Tastes First Defeat of Season at Missouri
Oklahoma is unbeaten no longer. Less than 24 hours after being run-ruled by the Sooners, Missouri knocked off the four-time national champions 3-1 Saturday afternoon in Columbia. It wasn’t just the Sooners’ first defeat of the 2025 season – they are now 28-1 overall and 7-1 in SEC play – and nearly their first shutout loss since a 1-0 Women’s College World Series setback against Alabama June 2, 2019.
OU Baseball: Oklahoma Goes Deep to Beat South Carolina and Win Series
The Oklahoma Sooners’ 17th victory in 19 games was their sweetest yet, a 6-5 10-inning triumph at South Carolina Sunday made possible by Jason Walk’s go-ahead home run in the top of the 10th, and several rallies leading up to the extra inning. OU (17-2 and 2-1 in the SEC) won the weekend series in Columbia as a result, notable given it was the Sooners’ first series as an SEC member. It was a weekend Skip Johnson’s club won’t soon forget, given those stakes and Sunday’s heroics.
OU Baseball: Oklahoma Storms to SEC-Opening Victory at South Carolina
Oklahoma commemorated its SEC baseball entrance with a gutsy 8-5 victory at South Carolina Friday night, improving to 16-1 on the season while taking the opener of a three-game "Welcome to the Big Time" series. "It's great," OU coach Skip Johnson told Voice of the Sooners Toby Rowland in postgame. "Good for the program and good for the University of Oklahoma." Ace pitcher Kyson Witherspoon was somewhere between solid and spectacular over his five-plus innings.
OU Basketball: Oklahoma Enters Postseason Headed in Positive Direction
Around the time Oklahoma was blown out at Florida for a fifth consecutive SEC loss and 3-10 conference record, Sooners coach Porter Moser cleared the deck. “Two or three weeks ago we were talking about our mission statement,” Moser said Monday during his pre-SEC Tournament press briefing. “We wanted to play better basketball, to win games and to get in the NCAA Tournament.” The Sooners have played better since their 85-63 nadir in Gainesville back on Feb. 18.
Top Seed South Carolina Bounces Oklahoma from SEC Tournament
South Carolina flexed its defending national champion muscle and Oklahoma suffered a 93-75 SEC Tournament semifinal loss as a result Saturday in Greenville, SC. The Sooners played the Gamecocks closer than they did in a 101-60 regular-season humbling loss on Jan. 19, but still never led Saturday. It was 45-28 at the half after South Carolina's 14-2 half-ending run, and 70-54 at the end of the third quarter after OU had pulled within 61-51.
OU Basketball: Oklahoma KOs Kentucky, Turns to SEC Semifinal vs. South Carolina
Familiar contributions from three stalwarts and a surprising assist from a role player charged No. 5-seed Oklahoma past 4-seed Kentucky 69-65 in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals Friday. Starters Raegan Beers, Payton Verhulst and Sahara Williams combined for 49 points and 17 rebounds as the 25-6 Sooners avenged a month-old homecourt loss to the Wildcats.
OU Basketball: Oklahoma KOs Georgia from SEC Tournament to Set Up Kentucky Rematch
Oklahoma never trailed and never really worried in a 70-52 SEC Tournament removal of Georgia Thursday in Greenville, S.C. Raegan Beers had her way with the slighter Bulldogs with 22 points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots as No. 5-seed OU advanced into Friday’s much-anticipated 1:30 p.m. quarterfinal against 4-seeded Kentucky. The 24-6 Sooners are on an eight-game winning streak since falling 95-86 to Kentucky Feb. 2 in Norman.
OU Basketball: Streaking Oklahoma Embarks on SEC Tournament Gauntlet
Oklahoma enters the postseason riding a seven-game winning streak, with one of the most potent offenses in women’s college basketball and one of the most prolific players in Raegan Beers. These are helpful developments as the No. 10 Sooners open the SEC Tournament against Georgia Thursday at 12:30 p.m. Potentially harmful is what awaits OU in Greenville, S.C. later this week.
OU Basketball: Oklahoma Beats Missouri to Salvage NCAA Tournament Hopes
Oklahoma played a sterling first half and held off a Missouri rally to post a 96-84 victory over the No. 15 Tigers Missouri Wednesday night at the Lloyd Noble Center. It was a surprising result, given the Sooners came in 1-7 since losing at Auburn Feb. 4 and fell 82-58 at Missouri Feb. 12. It was, potentially, a season-saving result given Porter Moser's team came in tracking the wrong direction in terms of NCAA Tournament hopes.
OU Basketball: Oklahoma Holds Off Alabama to Finish Regular Season Red Hot
A command performance by Oklahoma’s three anchors, and plenty of support from a deep supporting cast, led the No. 13 Sooners to a 91-84 regular season-ending victory over No. 20 Alabama on Sunday at Lloyd Noble Center. OU guard Payton Verhulst pumped in 24 points behind 4-of-8 shooting from 3-point range. Post Raegan Beers chipped in her familiar double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Forward Sahara Williams added 15 points behind 8-of-10 free throw shooting.
OU Baseball: Oklahoma Cruises Past Cal State Northridge for 10-0 Start
It was steady-as-they go for unbeaten Oklahoma pm Saturday in a routine 10-2 wipeout of Cal State Northridge at L. Dale Mitchell Park. The Sooners spread 15 hits among eight of the nine hitters in Skip Johnson’s lineup to improve to 10-0 on the season. First baseman Dayton Tockey had four of those hits, drove in a pair of runs and scored three times in his best offensive game of the young season.
OU Baseball: Oklahoma Strolls Past Texas Southern to Stay Unbeaten
The Oklahoma baseball team enjoyed a day as easy as the sunny, 78-degree weather Tuesday afternoon at L. Dale Mitchell Park, strolling past Texas Southern 15-4 in seven innings . The result kept the No. 16 Sooners unbeaten at 7-0, and was a pleasant downshift from the high stakes of their 3-0 weekend at the Round Rock Classic featuring a pair of wins over top-10 opponents. Every Sooner in Skip Johnson’s lineup contributed offensively. It was a balanced attack.
OU Basketball: Three Takeaways as Oklahoma Pulls Away from Arkansas
Raegan Beers posted another 30-piece and the Sooners dominated the second half to win 94-54. Oklahoma ran its winning streak to five Sunday with a 94-54 runaway over Arkansas in Fayetteville. Raegan Beers scored a career-high 30 points for the second straight game to power the Sooners, now 21-6 overall and 9-5 in the SEC. Sahara Williams (15 points), Skylar Vann (12) and Payton Verhulst (12) were the other OU starters in double figures.
OU Baseball: Oklahoma Serves Notice With Victory Over No. 7 Oregon State
Oregon State entered Saturday’s Round Rock Classic game against Oklahoma ranked No. 7, with a 5-0 record and 55-11 scoring differential, plus a day removed from beating No. 2 Virginia. The Beavers left Dell Diamond with their first welt of the season, and fully aware of OU’s 2025 potential. The Sooners’ 8-4 victory made them 2-0 in Round Rock and 5-0 on the season, but this felt different. This result came at the expense of a program with three national championships since 2006.
OU Baseball: Oklahoma Rides Heat-Throwing Ace to Open Weekend with a Victory
Kyson Witherspoon was dominant for the second time in as many starts, and Oklahoma rode its ace pitcher to a 3-2 victory over Minnesota Friday to open the weekend’s Round Rock Classic just outside Austin. The right hander struck out a career-high 12 over seven innings, allowing one run and three hits with no walks, one week after he opened OU’s season with a 9-strikeout show against Lehigh.

What 2024 college football betting odds say about OU and OSU prospects
Two oddsmakers released opening metrics for the 2024 college football season, and they are similarly daunting for OU and OSU. Nobody knows how OU and OSU will fare in their new environs next football season — the Sooners in the SEC, the Cowboys in a revamped Big 12 – but two oddsmakers have an idea.
Why two or three losses won't kill the Sooners and Cowboys' playoff hopes
Never mind the difference between “5 + 7” and “6 + 6,” as long as there are at least 12 teams in the playoff, the Sooners and Cowboys have a fighting chance. By Guerin Emig | Feb 27, 2024, 7:00am CST By Guerin Emig Feb 27, 2024, 7:00am CST The best way to maintain sanity amid college football’s head-spinning change is to focus on teams, not the sport. Take a topic, apply its evolution to a team, and see if the change helps, hurts or does neither. The College Football Playoff for example.

A dose of sanity amid college football chaos: the game is still the thing

Baker Mayfield beat the Super Bowl’s media blitz with his mouth, not his arm
If OU fans watched Mayfield lead Tampa Bay’s NFC playoff charge recently and said: “That sure looks familiar,” media around here tuned into Mayfield’s Super Bowl Week blitz and said the same thing. How OU’s Super Bowl alumni can pay it forward for Brent Venables

The precious commodity that will benefit OSU football’s early schedule
The Cowboys aren’t just experienced, they are stable. College football programs can be one or the other during the transfer portal boom. It’s rare for them to be both. What Brent Venables, Mike Gundy and every coach can learn from Jurgen Klopp

Someone in Oklahoma needs to defend college basketball, so here goes
