The Acrophylla alta species of stick insect, discovered recently in the high altitudes of North Queensland, Australia. Photograph: Professor Angus Emmott/James Cook University Scientists recently announced they had found an enormous new stick insect in Australia. At 41cm in length and weighing 44g, the main question I heard was: “Why didn’t scientists notice something that big before now?” The short answer is: it’s a stick.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes! And I also failed typing in high school. On a manual typewriter.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

I use mostly TextEdit, because that way I can do minimal formatting with not a lot of html baggage when I paste or send in to editors.

What's the worst pitch you ever got?

A PR company wanted to try to get me to cover their "Insect Fear Factor" screaming contest. Nope.
