El Niño-like tropical pacific ocean cooling pattern during the last glacial maximum - Communications Earth & Environment
Abstract Many state-of-the-art climate models are unable to reproduce the observed 20th century surface warming pattern in the tropical Pacific Ocean, casting doubt on the robustness of future projections. Here, we examine past changes in the tropical Pacific upper ocean spatial pattern using paleoclimate reconstructions from proxies and simulations from a multi-model ensemble.
Exploring the patient perspective in pulmonary hypertension
Introduction The patient perspective of pulmonary hypertension (PH) has changed enormously since the start of the modern era of the World Symposium of Pulmonary Hypertension (WSPH) in 1998. During the 6th WSPH in 2018, the importance of the patient's perspective and experience living with pulmonary hypertension was more formally recognised [1].

EP09.09: Treatment of fetal goiter in utero
We describe a case of fetal goiter diagnosed and treated in utero at a tertiary centre in Melbourne, Australia. A 40-year-old primaparous woman was referred with a suspicion of an enlarged fetal thyroid gland and polyhydramnios at 29 weeks of gestation. There was a maternal euthyroid state but elevation of anti-TSH-receptor, antithyroglobulin and antithyroid peroxidase (anti-TPO) antibodies.
Climate Evolution Through the Onset and Intensification of Northern Hemisphere Glaciation
1 Introduction Over the last ∼50 million years (Myr), there has been a long-term cooling trend in the Earth's climate, culminating in the transition to an “icehouse” climate state of bipolar and high amplitude glaciations which began in the Pliocene Epoch (5.3–2.58 million years ago, Ma) and was fully established across the Pliocene-Pleistocene transition (∼2.58 Ma) (Figure 1) (Westerhold et al., 2020).
Sustained mid-Pliocene warmth led to deep water formation in the North Pacific - Nature Geoscience
Abstract Geologic intervals of sustained warmth such as the mid-Pliocene Warm Period can inform our understanding of future climate change, including the long-term consequences of oceanic uptake of anthropogenic carbon. Here we generate carbon isotope records and synthesize existing records to reconstruct the position of water masses and determine circulation patterns in the deep Pacific Ocean.
Childers Residents Can Dump Storm Debris For Free
Childers residents can get rid of storm debris for free until Wednesday. Many have been touched by the hail storm which hit on Sunday. Bundaberg Regional Council has since announced that general and green waste will be accepted free of charge at the Childers Landfill until Wednesday. Cr Bill Trevor said the storm had generated a significant amount of green waste, as a result of hail damage to trees.

Alien Hunting Could Go High-Definition With Giant Space Telescope
Known as the High Definition Space Telescope, or HDST, it would sit a million miles from Earth, its 54 individual mirrors combining to form a surface with 25 times that of Hubble—enough muscle to search scores of Earthlike exoplanets for signs of life, lay bare secrets of the birth of galaxies like the Milky Way, and study our own solar system in astonishing detail. It would also make images so stunningly sharp they’d far outshine Hubble’s own eye-popping photographs.
Hubble anniversary: 25 of the most beautiful images captured by Nasa's space telescope
|
The Hubble Space Telescope marks its 25th anniversary this week. Nasa wanted an observatory free of the atmosphere's distortion and light pollution, and sent Hubble into orbit on 24 April 1990, aboard space shuttle Discovery. Excitement turned into agony when it quickly became apparent that the telescope's primary mirror had been botched during manufacturing, resulting in blurry "eyesight". Three years later, a team of astronauts managed to restore Hubble's vision with replacement parts.

Hubble's Greatest Hits
|
In April 2014, Hubble data was used to weigh the largest known galaxy cluster in the distant universe—catalogued as ACT-CL J0102-4915—finding it lives up to its nickname, El Gordo (Spanish for "the fat one"). By measuring how much the cluster's gravity warps images of galaxies in the distant background, astronomers calculated El Gordo's mass to be as much as three million billion times the mass of our sun—roughly 43 percent more massive than earlier estimates.
