Republicans should not underestimate a Kamala Harris campaign
Amid intense rhetoric surrounding the options for President Joe Biden’s replacement atop the Democratic ticket, numerous media outlets have been underestimating the campaign strength of Vice President Kamala Harris. Republicans will make a mistake, though, if they fail to understand the organizing power of an enthused Democratic Party. Granted, reviews of Harris’s performance as vice president, when she is visible at all, have been almost universally bad.
Texas school finance needs incremental change
The Texas school funding system has long perplexed school district leaders and policymakers alike. Its complexity and the challenges it poses have persisted for decades. However, what the state fails to recognize is the system’s inadequacy in addressing current needs. Inflation has surged significantly since 2019, especially during the Biden administration, underscoring the urgency for updates in funding policies. Notably, school districts have not received a state-funded increase since 2019.
Kai Trump showed the power of humanizing her ‘normal grandpa’
At this year’s Republican National Convention, former President Donald Trump’s granddaughter, Kai Trump, delivered a speech showing a level of humanity that could deliver this election to Trump on a silver platter. She appeared onstage with her father, Donald Trump Jr., and stole the crowd’s heart with personal stories of her grandfather. Her speech was full of quips and anecdotes about her grandpa.
Elon Musk made the right decision for business and for families
Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) has just delivered yet another blow to California’s economy. With the governor’s signature of a new law on Tuesday, Elon Musk announced in a statement that “because of this law and the many others that preceded it, attacking both families and companies, SpaceX will now move its HQ from Hawthorne, California, to Starbase, Texas.” He also announced that the headquarters of X would move to Austin, Texas.
Project ‘Blindsight’ needs to be celebrated
Elon Musk’s company Neuralink has always said its mission is to “create a generalized brain interface to restore autonomy to those with unmet medical needs today and unlock human potential tomorrow.” The work of Neuralink has stayed relatively concentrated to tech junkies or Musk fans. However, at a press conference held on July 10, Musk teased its newest project. This could be the most significant research and development project of this decade at the bare minimum — if it is successful.
The Chinese economic slowdown should concern the global community
The Chinese economy has slumped to its slowest rate in five quarters. It is in danger of faltering if solutions are not found at the Third Plenum meeting, particularly to the long-term property crisis. If a solution is not found, it should raise concerns for the international community. Past outcomes of the Plenum have changed the course of Chinese history.
Biden’s debate damage control is not working
To risk stating the obvious, the United States’s two leading presidential candidates are very old. This statement, while obvious, became apparent to the largely apathetic voter population following the first l debate between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump. During the debate, Biden frequently appeared incoherent and struggled to articulate his points, seemingly hindered by his jaw hanging open throughout the entire event.
Prison oversight is a model for Senate priorities
A new federal prison oversight bill exemplifies what kind of work the Senate should focus on. Spearheaded by Sens. Jon Ossoff (D-GA) and Mike Braun (R-IN), it follows extensive bipartisan investigations into federal prisons. Through their investigations, the senators uncovered pervasive corruption, abuse, and misconduct within the federal prison system.
Katie Ledecky’s career deserves more respect
The debate over the greatest athletes of all time typically fixates on familiar names and revered figures from various sports, those whose exploits are extensively documented in the media. People recognize Michael Jordan and Babe Ruth for their persistent dominance in their sports. Yet amid these well-publicized personas, there exists a notable absence of recognition for Katie Ledecky. Despite her consistent and remarkable performances, Ledecky often finds herself overlooked in these conversations.
Elissa Slotkin is failing Michigan voters
With the retirement of Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), the primary on Aug. 6 has sparked controversy due to a refusal among candidates from both parties to stand before the voters and debate. Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) opted out of a scheduled debate with her primary opponent, citing the Republican candidate’s decision not to participate. Michigan voters deserve to hear from the people running to represent them in the Senate.

Former President Donald Trump brought his youngest son, Barron, onstage Tuesday. He has largely been removed from the media spotlight throughout both his childhood and high school tenure. Biden’s political grandstanding amid Hurricane Beryl
As many Texans continue to live without power and deal with the damage from Hurricane Beryl, President Joe Biden continues to put politics over the needs of the country. Biden told the Houston Chronicle he had been trying to “track down” the governor to start the process of requesting aid.

Houston will weather Beryl
The city of Houston is once again bracing for another hurricane. Hurricane Beryl has made landfall over Texas as a Category 1 storm. Texans across the state braced for the weather that they have grown accustomed to. The continuous 500-year storms every other year have shocked the city into a place where the residents come together to help one another. In 2017, when another great tragedy, Hurricane Harvey, hit the Houston area, the community worked together.
Put baseball ahead of political games
Politics and sports have been mistakenly intertwined for years. MLB Commissioner Robert Manfred’s announcement that the league awarded the 2025 All-Star Game to the Atlanta Braves serves to push politics out of baseball. This announcement comes four years after moving the game from Truist Park to Denver’s Coors Field over objections to changes in Georgia’s voting rights laws. People are allowed to disagree. These disagreements should not take over the game.
Are the European base threats being understated?
The public deserves to know more about the threats to our country and our allies. The threat level was raised to Charlie this week, the second-highest, for several military bases in Europe. Pentagon deputy spokeswoman Sabrina Singh said the decision was made out of an “abundance of caution” that was driven by a “combination of factors,” including the major sporting events going on and coming up in the region. She said it wasn’t a “single threat” that brought on the rise in security levels.

Trump should announce his vice president now
The rumors about who former President Donald Trump’s vice president will be have circulated for months since he became the presumptive nominee for the Republican Party. Since Trump’s announcement that his eventual nominee for vice president would be in attendance at the first presidential debate, the speculation has only grown. While his pick remains unknown, amid the post-Biden debate debacle, an announcement would be good for the country.
The Left is mad Congress has to do its job now
The Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Chevron U.S.A. Inc. v. Natural Resources Defense Council marks a pivotal moment in recent judicial history. It was widely interpreted by the Left as representative of the court’s perceived corruption. Decided in 1984, the Chevron decision allowed judges to defer to agency interpretations of ambiguous statutes.
AOC sparks controversy with Supreme Court impeachment demand
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has always been one to criticize conservatives on the Supreme Court, but today she went one step further, calling for their impeachment on X. The Supreme Court has become consumed by a corruption crisis beyond its control. Today’s ruling represents an assault on American democracy. It is up to Congress to defend our nation from this authoritarian capture. I intend on filing articles of impeachment upon our return.
Macron’s foolish snap election strategy
When French President Emmanuel Macron called for the snap elections, people thought he was crazy. The far-right party National Rally emerged ahead of Macron’s party in the first round of voting that occurred on June 30. Now, ahead of the July 7 runoff elections, many in France are concerned about the future of the parliament. In Sunday’s first round of voting, Marine Le Pen’s National Rally outpaced Macron’s centrist alliance, gathering 34% of the vote, while Macron’s party trailed with just 20%.

Growing up with a family in the restaurant industry, Jarett Berke didn’t find his passion for it until later in his life.
Biden lies about the border again
President Joe Biden shows a continuous inability to tell the truth as he talks about immigration. Biden says, “My border is better than Trump left it.” As my colleague Tiana Lowe Doescher notes in a number-heavy fact check, the very claim is ludicrous. When Biden was pressed on the issue of terrorists going over our border to commit crimes, he said the only terrorists to come over our border came from al Qaeda.
Haley voters are key to debate win
The general election polls show former President Donald Trump with a small lead over President Joe Biden before the first presidential debate. The key to winning this debate will be which candidate can pull in the Nikki Haley voters who have remained without a candidate since she suspended her campaign in March. Haley voters are historically moderate Republicans who are a mix of college-educated and independent voters who could help swing the election.
The case for a ‘Dope Olympics’
As a U.S. House subcommittee delves into doping allegations against Chinese swimmers ahead of the Paris Olympics, debate intensifies over the boundaries of human achievement and the integrity of competitive sports. The committee heard testimony from U.S. swimming gold medalists Michael Phelps and Allison Schmitt. The necessity for doping investigations raises the question of possible outcomes if it were legalized. Every time the Olympics come around, they inspire great patriotism.
Curtis win shows path forward on climate
Rep. John Curtis’s (R-UT) victory in the Republican primary to replace Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) over former President Donald Trump’s endorsed candidate shows a way for the Republican Party to move forward following the current divisiveness. Curtis won the primary easily, with nearly 51% of the vote over Trump-backed candidate Trent Staggs, who had about 30% of the vote. Romney has a reputation for being critical of Trump, notably voting to impeach him twice.
China’s alarming nuclear arsenal

This comes as Washington, Seoul, and Tokyo released a joint statement condemning deepening military ties between North Korea and Russia. California woes deepen for Newsom as polls drop
Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) is not alone in the polling and approval woes. Newsom’s polling numbers have dropped from an all-time high of 64% three years ago. Around 44% of Californians say they approve of Newsom’s performance, but general approval of the state legislature hovers at 40%. When asked specifically about their own legislators, general approval rises to 41%. The numbers do not really change when adjusted for who would be a likely voter.

Senate abortion hearing: Facts lost in partisan punches
The Senate Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Federal Courts, Oversight, Agency Action, and Federal Rights held a hearing on state abortion travel bans Wednesday, which was a total embarrassment for all involved. The hearing, titled “Crossing the Line: Abortion Bans and Interstate Travel for Care After Dobbs,” featured two panels comprising legislators and advocacy groups on both sides. However, the committee failed to represent the matter wholly and acted more as a partisan circus. Sen.

Supreme Court’s unanimous ruling defies the Left’s expectations
The discussion surrounding the impact of overturning Roe v. Wade prompted many on the Left to argue that the conservative-leaning Supreme Court aimed to “strip away all their rights” or “relegate women back to the kitchen.” There is a perception among some that conservatives seek to confine women instead of supporting them, but this is a fallacy designed to stoke fear and anger at Republicans.

Colorado’s cannabis tax bust
When Colorado first legalized marijuana, one of the first arguments supporters used was about the immense tax benefit the state would receive. But the state has only collected $2.3 billion in revenue since 2014, a tiny fraction of the state’s budget. Since then, almost half of all states have legalized recreational marijuana, bringing in an estimated $15 billion in national tax revenue. Now, the market faces a serious downturn, and there is not enough demand to keep prices up.
