What does it mean to be a journalist?
Everything. It’s a responsibility and an honor to be a trusted source of news for the public that I never take for granted.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
A well-composed email or Facebook message
What's your favorite social network?
Define favorite, and for what purpose. Personal, professional? Instagram as a storytelling tool
Who do you wish followed you?
I don’t. I’m not a person who personally desires social followers beyond those I care about, and they all already follow me :)
Why did you become a journalist?
The answer to "What do you want to be when you grow up?" changed often for me. The one thing that never changed was my desire to help others.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Remember that life is best lived with boundaries. Don’t just pitch localizing the national story of the day — dig deep, be different.

Tea
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
On my back deck listening to the birds while my dog lays in the sunshine.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
I love a good Wikipedia page. CNET, CNN, Politico, Washington Post, NYT. Fave local news (besides NBC4) would be WUSA 9.
