Open bookmarks to local files in Chrome
This was originally going to be a comment, as I'm not 100% sure of its accuracy, but here goes: At least with the stock Gingerbread browser, every link that you click makes the browser broadcast an intent to see which apps respond saying that they can handle the link's target themselves (like when you follow a Play Store link and it asks you if you want to open it in the browser ( ) or in the Play Store app). Since no apps respond the browser essentially ignores it.
Generate a browser bookmark from file manager
As suggested by t0mm13b in his comment on your question, a shortcut on the desktop is the easiest way. This requires you to first open the page with your browser, and create a bookmark for it (you will see later why this step is required). As you stated not to be able to add the shortcut in the usual way, here comes an alternative approach: Some tablets come with a launcher that only offers wallpaper settings on long press (I have some of those as well).
Is there a legal method to download APKs and install them from SD cards?
I am involved in a project that involves using a few apps on phones in rural India. The bandwidth is expensive for the users and sometimes isn't available. So it's a requirement that the APKs can be taken out, copied on to the phone (via USB, SD card ...) and then installed directly on the phone. The project is non-commercial, but isn't personal. All the apps we want to use are free on the app store. I can get hold of apk files from the Play Store and copy them to a laptop or SD card.
Launch nautilus in location navigated to in Terminal
I find it rather hard to travel through my system using nautilus and much prefer using the etc commands in Terminal to get around my system, but I find that sometimes I do need to look at a list of files and folders in nautilus as just isn't doing it for me and maybe there is such a large number of files that it would be much simpler if I could just have them all listed in a GUI instead of having to get ls to redirect the output into a file that I would then have to read.
