Coastal Tidings Across the Cape & Islands | Cape Cod LIFE
As we move into the end of the year and prepare for the colder temperatures and (fingers crossed) some snowfall, Cape Cod emerges from its summer grasp and turns into a wonderland for enjoying the coziness of the coast. Amidst the solitary winter beach walks and bare trees that grace our landscape, winter on Cape Cod becomes a place for friends new and old to connect and celebrate the year-long beauty of our one-of-a-kind home.
Based On A True Story: The 20th Anniversary Exhibition
In 2005 Fat Freddy’s Drop released their debut studio album, Based On A True Story, a genre-defying record that went straight to number one and became the longest-charting album in Aotearoa history, spending over two years in the Top 40. Created through live, improvised jams and road-tested on stages worldwide, the album was recorded in a basement studio in Lyall Bay, Wellington.
Artist Profiles: Pete Hocking
For lifelong artist Pete Hocking, memory is instrumental to his work, both in the way it is created and the way it is beheld and experienced. Hocking has spent most of his life wandering the beaches and forests of Cape Cod, the last twelve years as a permanent resident. It was remembering walks he took with his parents as a child that sparked his love for the Cape Cod National Seashore. And he hopes that same feeling is captured by others.
Who Rescued Who?
The love of Cape Cod goes hand in paw with the love of a dog. Alongside the symbols of the lighthouse, the lobster, and the always prevalent arm-shaped peninsula, the paw print is on countless T-shirts, bumper stickers and bathing suits from the Canal to the Pilgrim Monument. And with a love of dogs comes a priority of protecting and nurturing animals in need, a dedicated cause of Cape residents and businesses alike.

More Than Just Books
Throughout history, the role of the library has been a simple, but important one: spread information. For most of the past, this has meant a focus on books and the written word. Over time, the concept of information has spread; what was once just a room of parchment scrolls became a place for lending DVDs, audiobooks, magazines, and electronics. And now, communities like the Cape and Islands are playing host to a whole new realm of lending, through the Library of Things program.

Emerging Artists: Creative Futures
There comes a point in some artists’ lives when their passion turns from a hobby to a career. When the call of the brush or pen, or their own hands, demands more from them than is already being given—things begin to shift. This can be a transition as simple as selling a first piece, or being told by the right person, “You can do this.” It can be as monumental as a rave review, a sold-out gallery show, or national recognition.

Six Underrated Miniseries You Need To Watch Now
The opinions expressed in this article are the writer’s own and do not reflect the views of Her Campus. Listen, I love a 15 season-long show as much as the next girl (I’ve watched all of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, for example), but there’s something special about the miniseries in its uniquely short runtime. When everyone watched The Queen’s Gambit back during the height of lockdown, it became clear how succinct a miniseries can be in telling a powerful story.

Pursue Your Partner at Every Stage of Marriage
We met Marcy and Jack during our first group dance lesson. Unlike many of the dating or engaged couples we’d danced with, Marcy and Jack had been at this marriage thing for quite some time. Forty years to be exact. They first started dancing in preparation for their daughter’s wedding. The wedding came and went, but Marcy and Jack kept returning for dance lessons week after week. With practice, they continued to hone and improve their dance skills as a couple.
Choose a Partner You Can Be Playful With
As children, many of us were encouraged to play and create as we took in the novel world around us with a sense of wonder and awe. Our playful and frolicsome spirits were often celebrated, delighting caregivers and strangers alike and bringing a bit more joy into their worlds. As we grow older, more often than not, we are encouraged to subdue playful tendencies and to replace them with a more serious and professional air, as we strive to have it all figured out.
