LEADERSHIP LESSONS: The dance of a ministry wife life
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (KT) - Life as a pastor's wife can be tough. But it can also be redemptive. Take it from Tanya York, a recent guest on Leadership Lessons, Kentucky Baptist Convention's weekly podcast with Dr. Todd Gray.
‘Prayer is greater work,’ says WMU leader
ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (KT) - When Kristy Carr, senior manager of Woman’s Missionary Union (WMU), was a child, she heard about Russia on the news. During Girls in Action (GA’s), everyone whispered about Russia, the enemy. Carr recalls her GA teacher responding, “We should pray for our enemies,” and “Don’t ever think of them as the enemy, because God made them.” Carr said her perspective toward her enemies changed because of these “wise words of a missions leader.” Carr even went on to visit Muldova.
COMMENTARY: An open letter to Chris Rock after his Netflix special
Note: Chris Rock’s Netflix comedy special is not appropriate or suitable for children or family viewing due to inappropriate and sexually explicit language. Viewer discretion advised. Dear Chris, I am a 27-year-old, Christian, conservative, white female from Kentucky, and I watched your comedy special. I imagine I’m not your typical viewer. And Lord knows I never would have turned on the special but for hearing about it recently in a podcast.
Evangelism and the secret ingredient
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (KT) - Dawn Reed, a Kentucky Baptist newspaper columnist, encouraged nearly 60 women in evangelism during a breakout session at the REACH Evangelism and Missions Conference entitled Sharing Christ in a Hostile World. Reed and participants began by singing the “very first song about evangelism we ever learned,” This Little Light of Mine. “We are here so that we can remember to let our light shine.
FIRST-PERSON: Muslim wedding meets Jesus film
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (KT) -My church recently hosted a two-day missions conference where we heard from various missionaries. Listening to missionaries - their zeal for the Lord, eyes to see glory in small moments, and ability to continue through hardship nearly always inspires me and make me want to know Jesus more. I love to hear and tell the stories of my brothers and sisters on the field. Here is one such story that occurred at the conference.
FIRST-PERSON: Where Christ meets crippling insecurity
Years ago, a group of friends made me a silly birthday gift in good humor. They compiled a bunch of unattractive photos of me (photos “gone wrong”) and pasted them on canvas. In the pictures, my hair was a mess, my facial expressions contorted, my eyes half closed. It was meant to be funny. I remember opening my gift with excitement on the eve of my birthday, in front of smiling and giggling friends. When I opened the gift of art, my heart was wrung like an old washcloth and I fought off tears.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (KT) -Students at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary have regular opportunities to use their classroom knowledge in hands-on evangelism efforts across Louisville, thanks to the Bevin Center. Coy Merry, Bevin Center missions coordinator, says groups of seminary students are regularly sent to college campuses to speak with students who don’t know Christ. “We want to help students make evangelism a habit of life,” Merry said.

All eyes focus on (another?) Asbury revival
WILMORE Time will tell if the revival unfolding on the campus of Asbury University will have the impact of one from 1970. The comparisons, though, are uncanny. They both broke out during a time of unrest in America and in a normal campus chapel service. They included confession, repentance and testimonies of hundreds of students who gathered at the altar on the first day.

FIRST-PERSON: Help for the decision-fatigued millennial
We are steamrolled by questions these days. Just this morning, on my phone, I received questions varying from the smallest of details to thoughtful projects: my preference for a ribbon color, what time we can arrive for a dinner party this week, two invitations to in-state events, one invitation to an out-of-state event, and a request that I write an inspiring letter to a friend’s daughter on her birthday.

FIRST-PERSON: Broken prayers
One longstanding tradition in my family is my grandpa asking me to pray before our Thanksgiving meal. This privilege has not been mine every year, but there have been many years when it has been. I have always considered it an honor, that Pa would ask me to pray. Me; quiet, timid, very unremarkable Hannah would be asked to go before the Creator of the world with grateful words for her family. And this year, I failed.
FIRST-PERSON: Sickly avalanche

FIRST-PERSON: Redeeming our haunted spaces
LOUISVILLE - There are times when I am tempted to believe in ghosts. Like when I happened upon Lakeland Asylum one day. As my parents and I walked the circular path in Tom Sawyer Park, the image of an eerie, ancient mansion stopped me. I read the signs describing the mental hospital, and we mused that this would be the perfect ending scene for a horror film. On a clear, fall day, three adults stumble upon the ruins of a mental hospital.
FIRST-PERSON: Water ground corn
LOUISVILLE (KT) - My great, great great grandfather built a corn mill in Mill Springs, Kentucky in 1877. For generations, the Roberts men in my family worked in the three-story mill, taking golden vegetables and grinding them down into the sandy, soft-yellow powder that is cornmeal. The wooden mill, now painted white, is situated on a small hill near Lake Cumberland.
