Harm Venhuizen’s Biography

I am an award-winning journalist with experience covering the U.S. military, higher education and state government.

Currently I am a Report for America corps member with The Associated Press in Madison, Wisconsin, where I cover voting rights, threats to democracy and state politics.

My work has explored the issues of veteran suicide and veteran unemployment, detailed the efforts of elections workers to combat conspiracy theories and investigated child labor violations and attempts to weaken child labor laws.

I was named 2022 Reporter of the Year by the Associated Collegiate Press for exposing a university's anti-LGBTQ+ hiring practices.

Prior to my time in journalism, I worked on dairy farms and as a U.S. Forest Service wildland firefighter.
