What was your first job as a journalist?
My first paying job was working "freelance" for an outlet called the Copper Courier in Phoenix, AZ

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
Email usually, but if it's someone I know phone calls are fine.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
I use cue, lexis nexis, city public document repositories, my phone, and my laptop
What's your favorite social network?
None of them.
Why did you become a journalist?
Because I wanted to figure out what was going on in my community, while at the same time keeping my community informed.

What's your favorite drink?
Besides water? A good pilsner, a dirty martini or a white russian

Walking my dogs, or hanging out in my backyard

Associated Press. I also listen to a lot of NPR
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
That it's only about uncovering corruption. Sometimes it's just about telling people what the government is doing and why they should care
