My first paying job was as a contributor for GirlGamer. They paid me with a monthly Gamefly subscription!
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes! I used to write short stories on an old typewriter before my parents could afford a used PC.

Transparency and triple-checking sources must be at the forefront. Fake news travels at the speed of light!

Keep in mind that write for multiple outlets, so start with the theme, i.e. marketing, entertainment, etc. and why the news matters.

Why did you become a journalist?
My inquisitive brain wanted to know more about the video games I love, so I began reaching out to people involved. and interviewing them.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
Yes! I wrote a few articles but was brought on as the paper's official illustrator.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
Celebrating Women in Esports, a 5-part series for The Esports Observer. People loved it so much, it's now a monthly feature!
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Write, write, write! Even if it's only on a blog or LinkedIn articles to start. Build your portfolio and learn to pitch.
When's the best time to pitch you?
Early afternoons between noon and 2 pm MST are usually best but feel free to send emails anytime.

"Write 10 articles for $20 and we'll make you a CERTIFIED GAME REPORTER."

Coffee in the morning, black tea w/ cream and sugar in the afternoon and Captain and Coke for unwinding.
