Regional research capacity: what role in levelling up?
This report compares the UK’s policies intended to ‘level up’ the research and innovation capacity of regions with those in Germany after unification as well as in the US. The report concludes that investment has been too small and poorly linked to boosting research capacity. The report also confirms there is exceptional regional economic imbalance in the UK. Yet despite disparities in the scale of UK regional research activity, the average academic research performance of the regions is similar.
Houston survives XFL-USFL merger; to be part of inaugural UFL
The XFL and USFL, which have merged operations and will kick off on March 30 as the United Football League, will launch with eight teams. Houston will be home to one of the teams in the new spring professional football league. The Roughnecks will be led by head coach Curtis Johnson, who led the USFL's Houston Gamblers to a 5-5 record last year. The Business Journals reported in November that the two leagues had cleared a major federal hurdle in their quest to play as a united league this spring.
