It goes by so fast
By Heather Bright It started about the time my oldest child turned two. I was a new mom and didn’t expect to be struggling with it so soon: Kindergarten. It was still three years away, but everyone around me said, “It goes by so fast.” In my mind, the first day of school was right around the corner. I knew there were several options, and my tiny two-year-old had me thinking a lot about where he’d learn his ABCs. Three years later, we dropped him off at a Christian school right here in Xenia.
If these walls could talk
By Heather Bright I’m a millennial (don’t tune me out yet!) who grew up in a nearby suburb and had a picturesque childhood. My parents still live in my childhood home. Every so often, I like to sit in my old bedroom. The furniture is unfamiliar now because it became a guest bedroom after I moved out, but that doesn’t keep memories from flooding my mind. I did countless hours of homework beside one of the windows that overlooked a beautiful magnolia tree.
When ordinary becomes exciting
By Heather Bright - Contributing columnist A popular quote from Henry Thoreau reads: “It’s not what you look at that matters, it’s what you see.” Perspective changes everything, really. If you would have told me a few years ago that I would be living blocks from downtown Xenia, I would have said you were crazy. I used to look at the old buildings and didn’t see much value in this historical town. Fast forward to the year we moved near these old buildings.
