What was your first job as a journalist?

Writing movie reviews for a video store's newsletter, a video store where I was doing a practicum for my Business Services Class.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

No.

How is social media changing news?

The government is making it hard to receive news via social media because they want to control narratives, making people rely on eachother.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

John Boy Walton from 'The Waltons.' Kermit the Frog from 'Sesame Street.'

What does it mean to be a journalist?

It means to bring stories to life.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

Via email. Straight to the point.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Computer, brain, email, anything I am given.

What's your favorite social network?

Everything I can use to connect to others.

Why did you become a journalist?

Because I love to write and bring stories to life.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

No high school paper, but I was a reporter and page maker/editor for my college paper and magazine.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

I put love into every story I work on.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Don't come into this expecting to get paid a lot. Don't do this job solely for the money. Do it because you love to write and tell stories.

What's your favorite drink?

Non-alcoholic.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

Walking or sleeping.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

books.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

That it's well-paid, that writers with disabilities or women are respected or treated equally, or that work is steady.
