What was your first job as a journalist?

I wrote a piece for a local paper on pets on the beach; I came home with a Dalmatian puppy. I have had Dals every since!

Have you ever used a typewriter?

LOL! Man was I happy when they developed erase tape!

How is social media changing news?

Ask Russia.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

Trump

What does it mean to be a journalist?

Being a truth finder. Real journalists are on the frontline of society, culture and war though.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

paper. pen. computer. microphone. phone. yoga.

What's your favorite social network?

During the Iran Election I saw the power of Twitter and watched friends I was following disappear online. Now it's all ads.

Who do you wish followed you?

Michelle Obama.

Why did you become a journalist?

I had nothing better to do one day.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

Nope. I was too busy dancing.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

999, the story of the first girls in Auschwitz, it has been such an honor and a journey to research and meet them and their families.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Don't take anything personally.

What's your favorite drink?

Mohito. Although I recently discovered Chareau, an aloe vera liquor. YUM!

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

swimming.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

Anything literary.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

That you have to be boring and depressed and are a party poop.
