Interview
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes. I used my mom's typewriter that she received as a graduation present.
How is social media changing news?
Everything is so immediate, which creates more conversations than in the past. The first information isn't in news stories but in Tweets.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
Microsoft Word, a digital recorder, notebook/pen, headphones, program/roster/scoresheet.
What's your favorite social network?
Definitely the Twitter machine.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
Oh, yes. I was the co-editor of the paper at our brand new high school. I copy edited, wrote stories and help plan the first issues.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
An extensive story about Minnesota hockey legend, Winny Brodt Brown.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Keep writing and keep reading - no matter what. Don't shy away from opportunities just because they might not be your favorite beat.
What's your favorite drink?
I love coffee.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Probably watching sports somewhere. At a hockey rink, a baseball park or a flatscreen TV.
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
That we just kick back and watch all the games. And that's all.
