Performances Mon-Sat, 7.30pm Wed & Sat matinees, 2.30pm Previews: Tue 14 - Mon 20 May Venue Main House The European premiere of the Tony Award-winning rock musical, Passing Strange. You know, it's weird when you wake up in the morning and realize that your entire adult life was based on a decision made by a teenager. A stoned teenager.
I don't think I really believed it was spring until I saw "Passing Strange." Yellow Tree Theatre's rock/blues/pop/funk musical doesn't have anything to do with the season but it's so fresh, energetic and full of promise that it's in keeping with the grape hyacinths pushing out of the ground at my house. Also in the spring-y vein, it's a show that feels like it's finding its way toward something new.
Breaking News California gas prices reach $5.75 a gallon Tuesday but falling oil prices could mean cheaper fuel in the weeks ahead Shotgun Players’ new production of “Passing Strange” is now playing just across town from where the musical first premiered in 2006 at Berkeley Repertory Theatre. The show has had quite a journey along the way to its homecoming.
Authors: Stew and Heidi Rodewald At: The Den Theatre, 1616 N. Wells St. Tickets: HavenTheatreChicago.com; $35. Runs through: March 10 Haven Theatre and About Face Theatre's The Total Bent is what comes from combining a dab of everything on your artists' pallet. It's beat poetry, gospel, blues and psychadelic flutes. The same goes for tone; director Lili-Anne Brown keeps us volleying between total exuberance and total despair.
