A generative language model decodes contextual constraints on codon choice for mRNA design
Abstract Synonymous codon choice affects mRNA fate and protein output, posing a challenge for mRNA technology. Design of therapeutic mRNAs requires a model that captures biological nuance from natural sequences while identifying constraints relevant to synthetic expression. We present Trias, a generative encoder-decoder language model trained on millions of vertebrate coding sequences that successfully designs mRNAs with high protein output.
Parasite and vector circadian clocks mediate efficient malaria transmission - Nature Microbiology
Abstract Malaria transmission begins when Anopheles mosquitos deposit saliva and Plasmodium parasites during a bloodmeal. As Anopheles mosquitos are nocturnal, we investigated whether their salivary glands are under circadian control, anticipating bloodmeals and modulating parasite biology for host encounters.

Inhibition of salt inducible kinases reduces rhythmic HIV-1 replication and reactivation from latency
Abstract Human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) causes a major burden on global health, and eradication of latent virus infection is one of the biggest challenges in the field. The circadian clock is an endogenous timing system that oscillates with a ~24 h period regulating multiple physiological processes and cellular functions, and we recently reported that the cell intrinsic clock regulates rhythmic HIV-1 replication.
A versatile mouse model of COVID-19
Israelow et al. report a novel mouse model of COVID-19 using adeno-associated virus (AAV)-mediated expression of human ACE2 (hACE2) in the respiratory tract, which supports productive SARS-CoV-2 infection. Infected mice had acute infiltration of innate and adaptive immune cells to the lungs and developed specific neutralizing antibodies.
