Interview

How is social media changing news?

Social media is revolutionizing how news is consumed and shared, particularly in niche markets like gambling. It has made information more accessible and immediate, allowing audiences to stay updated in real time. However, it also amplifies challenges like misinformation and sensationalism, especially in industries where regulations and public opinion are constantly shifting. For me, social media serves as both a platform to share insights and a tool to gauge public sentiment, which helps shape my stories. The key is balancing the speed of social media with the responsibility of accurate and thoughtful reporting.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

To me, being a journalist means being a storyteller and a watchdog, especially in niche industries like gambling. It’s about uncovering the truth, explaining complex topics in a way readers can understand, and providing them with the tools to make informed decisions. It also means being responsible—ensuring accuracy, fairness, and integrity in every piece you write. Ultimately, journalism is about fostering transparency and trust, even in industries where these values can sometimes be in short supply.

What's your favorite social network?

My favorite social network is LinkedIn. It’s a fantastic platform for connecting with professionals in the gambling and gaming industry, staying updated on regulatory changes, and sharing insights with a more engaged and focused audience. While other platforms like Twitter are great for real-time updates, LinkedIn allows for deeper, more meaningful discussions that align with my niche expertise and professional goals.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

I'm most proud of writing my in-depth analysis on how non-Swedish licensed casinos are influencing the gambling habits of Swedish players. This piece allowed me to highlight the pros and cons of these platforms, discuss consumer protections, and explore why so many players are drawn to these alternatives. It was especially fulfilling because it helped shed light on an underexplored aspect of the gaming industry, and I believe it contributed to a more informed discussion around regulation, player safety, and industry transparency.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

My advice to aspiring journalists is to find your niche and dive deep into it. The key to standing out is developing expertise in a specific area—become the go-to person for that topic. In my case, understanding the intricacies of gambling regulations and consumer behavior allowed me to provide valuable insights to a highly engaged audience. Also, always prioritize accuracy and fairness, even in controversial industries. Lastly, keep an open mind and be ready to learn constantly—industries evolve quickly, and staying informed is crucial to maintaining credibility.

What's the best pitch you ever got?

The best pitch I ever received was from a tech expert who introduced me to innovative tools casinos without Swedish licenses use to enhance player experience and bypass certain regulatory barriers. It wasn’t just about the technology itself but how it was reshaping player behavior and industry dynamics. The pitch was concise, backed by data, and connected directly to trends I was already covering, making it both relevant and intriguing. It turned into a fascinating story that resonated with my audience and deepened my understanding of the evolving gambling landscape.
