Have you ever used a typewriter?
Once, I think - back at school, which ages me a bit!
How is social media changing news?
It's made everything faster and more reactive, and allowed a great deal of misinformation to proliferate, which journalists now have to fight
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Avery Jessup, from 30 Rock.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
I think it's still important that people have access to accurate, human-created, fact checked reporting at a time of increasing AI use.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
By email initially- it creates a record you can refer back to. I'll usually follow up by phone.
What's your favorite social network?
I'm a huge fan of TikTok at the moment, it's a great news source and people are using it very creatively.
Who do you wish followed you?
Probably Elon Musk, so I could DM him and give him a piece of my mind.
Why did you become a journalist?
I grew up in poverty and it felt like voices like mine were very underrepresented in journalism, I wanted to write about social issues.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I wrote for The Student at Edinburgh University.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Make the most of Journo Resources, they are a great organisation and have an incredibly useful jobs email newsletter.
