Gut microbiome of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder associates with clinical severity
Abstract Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a heterogeneous neurodevelopmental condition. Although the gut microbiome has been implicated in ASD, prior studies have insufficiently addressed clinical heterogeneity. Here, we perform shotgun metagenomic sequencing on stool samples from 720 children with ASD (median age 8 years, 87% male) and 151 matched controls.
Moonrise
I have been getting better at receiving messages from the universe. Recently I have been tuning into my heart and asking questions about those I loved wholeheartedly who left this world to heaven. I received the message that those we love have never left us. It may seem that we're separated from different worlds on the outside, but our human eyes only perceive less than 1% of the whole reality. People we lost were changing into other forms of energy.
Just Breathe.
You’ve been overwhelmed by work, feeling you’re not doing enough. You work overtime every day trying to catch up with that deadline, but there’s always more work coming up that expands the scope of your projects and keeps you far from the destination. You try to fit into a schedule designed for a man or even a machine, assuming every day is the same and equally productive. However, you are a human, and you are a woman.
Your life doesn’t look like others, and that’s okay.
I’m turning 27 next month, and when I look at my friends of a similar age, I often see a huge difference in our lifestyles and life stages. Some have stable jobs and relationships and are buying new houses or stepping into marriage, while others live colorful lives filled with countless social connections and activities as well as eve-catching travel experiences. I could fall into neither of these groups of people. I was recently laid off and have just started a new role for 3 months.
What is your source of happiness?
I was having dinner with a friend I had met for the first time, and since he knew I just moved to a new city, he wanted to introduce me to some of his favorite bars in the city. I told him that I no longer drink any more. He was surprised. He then asked if I liked spicy food, and I said I used to like it but now I would prefer mild food. “You miss so much fun in life for not drinking alcohol and not eating spicy dishes,” he said.
Every day is a blessing.
In July 2023, I was laid off from my previous company. I was shocked. I was panicked. I was lost. How am I supposed to live and support my family without a job? Moreover, I was on a work visa, and losing my job meant losing my legal status in the US. I have put so much effort into making this place my home. Am I going to lose everything I built here? I never thought the layoffs could happen to me. I had a great performance in my role, and I got good relationships with coworkers.
Play with the Magic in Your Hands
There is no right or wrong about how and what you want to experience in this life. If you question your qualifications, you're back to your old self and making yourself small. Ask yourself, how do you feel when you make the decision? Does your heart feel joyful and excited or does it feel frustrated and limited? When you're walking on the path of your heart, you will always find more joy and love. When you follow the excitement and light in your life, you're always right on your highest expansion.
Everything You Love is Within You
In the past, when you saw something you liked, you would feel it unrealistic and unattainable in your own life. When you looked at others you admired, you thought it would be hard to become just like that. You doubted, you feared, and you didn't trust yourself. You were amazed by the beauty of nature, hoping to come back again sometime in the future. You wanted to experience the beautiful relationship in the drama, but you felt it might never happen in your real life.
Feelings of Worthiness
You recognize the power within you. By being conscious of your thoughts and your emotions, either survival or elevated emotions, you gradually see and accept who you truly are, a creator of your life. You understand life is a reflection of your state of being in every moment, and you practice feeling the state ahead of your future to call the experience to you. You embrace your power, within you and all around you. You are grateful for it and you step into the unlimited version of yourself.
In Those Quiet Days
Most days in your life, you are busy doing your work, hustling to the next milestone, or making efforts to be seen. But some days are quiet. You are more in your inner space. You do not feel like doing anything or rushing anywhere. You just want to be. Be here, be still, and be you. Instead of putting your attention to something in the external world, something you can see, you choose to invest your awareness in the unknown.
You Are More Than Enough.
It is normal to have doubts and fears. But you have to know that the only time you are enough is when you think you are enough. There are infinite ways of achieving your goals, and you don't have to walk the same path as all other people do. People may judge you according to their experiences of life and their expectations of people with similar backgrounds as yours. However, their perspective is just one way of viewing life and evaluating value. It can be wrong, and it can be biased.
Anchoring the Heart Space
Recently, my life has been shifting drastically. Something totally unexpected happened in my life. In the conventional world, this would mean something bad and would drive me to panic. But I was surprised by how quickly I accepted the situation as it is, and I am grateful for anchoring deep in my heart. I knew my state had been calm and peaceful, and I woke up every morning feeling loved and grateful. Thus, this thing happened must not be because I did something wrong that manifest it.
The Gentle Love Towards Self
Did you notice what you whispered to yourself when fears came up? You told yourself it's okay to have fears because fear is just a human emotion. It is neither your state nor your truth. You told yourself you can still get what you desire even if you are scared of the circumstances. You relaxed your shoulders, breathed in calmness, and dropped into the heart. Then you let the emotion go as it didn't belong to you. Are you aware that choosing yourself has become natural for you?
Allow Yourself to Transform
When an internal shift happens, a lot of the time I feel confused, wondering whether where I am and what I have been doing is correct. But I have come to an understanding that nothing we do is wrong. All that we are and what we do at every moment is exactly who we're meant to be and what we're meant to do. Moreover, every stage in our lives is leading us to greater fulfillment as well as the highest states our soul desires. Just like life has its seasons.
Live Like Wildflowers
For my life before 25, I had made myself small to fit into groups of friends I thought were worthy. I had disciplined myself to perform well in schoolwork to be deemed a good girl. I also followed social media's fashion and beauty trends to dress up to be liked. Yes, they did work, but none of them brought lasting fulfillment to my soul. Then I found, that longing to be accepted by others was in fact a constant yearning to be seen by myself, to know I am enough as who I am.
Losing Time in the Wondrous Expansion of Creativity, Playfulness, and Ease
I used to come back home from work every night feeling empty and lost, staring at the white wall with an exhausted mind still wandering in all the work things. I didn't want to do anything except scroll my phone unconsciously to pass through the long night and darkness. This also leads to a stressed and unrestful soul every morning, feeling small in front of the circumstances and always looking forward to the coming of the weekend. However, lately, I can't relate to these feelings anymore.
Life is So Much More Than What is Real
Growing up, I learned that money was very critical, and that you had to work hard to earn it. I was taught by one of my managers in my early career that it was not possible to have a work-life balance. I observed people around me ignoring their interests just to meet the expectation of society, and I thought it would be normal for me to do the same. I saw people around me always look sad, resentful, and anxious, so I assumed love, joy, and freedom were not realistic in life.
Embracing the Gift of Being Sensitive
Growing up, I was always ashamed of my sensitivity. When someone joked something about me or said something carelessly, my face turned green, my smile suddenly distorted, and everyone knew I got hurt. In social events, I often felt what people said or did very deeply and took them personally, which drained me so much and dragged me into endless self-blame and a constant spiraling mind.
You Have Shifted So Much. Take a Moment to Honor Yourself.
We, humans, have many desires, which is a good thing. They allow us to find our purposes in life and overcome all the resistance to receiving what we deserve. You might feel you have worked nonstop or spent lots of energy on embodying the version of you that you wanted to be but it was still not enough. However, if you take a moment to observe yourself, you will notice you have grown so much, and you will be amazed by how much you have shifted.
You Are Not Meant to Fit in. You are Meant to Create.
Growing up, we were taught to pursue a specific career to be successful, to get along with certain groups of people with great reputations, or to study hard and get into a high-ranked university to make our family proud. But sometimes we just find no motivation to do so. We force ourselves to go on the path with our peers only to fall behind and lose hope.
Feeling Safe to Open, to Be Connected, to Be Seen, and to Be Held
It is human nature to desire connections. In fact, it is one of the most significant sources of happiness for human beings-the desire to be seen, to be understood, to be accepted, and to be held unconditionally. As I grew up and graduated from school, this sense of belonging became harder and harder for me to grasp. Sometimes I got so lost and didn't know what the meaning of being in this world was.
