FEBEA reasserts that sunscreens are safe
Following the study carried out by the CNRS and Sorbonne University, published on Monday 8 March in the American medical journal Chemical Research in Toxicology, the Federation of Beauty Companies (FEBEA) reminds us that sun protection products are safe for health. Here is the full text of its press release, dated March 9, 2021.
Accumulation of Benzophenone by degradation of Octocrylene in cosmetic products
According to a scientific study published on 7 March 2021 in “Chemical Research in Toxicology”, Octocrylene contained in cosmetic products, including sunscreen products, degrades over time and generates Benzophenone, in proportions that may represent a safety risk for consumers. The authors of the study call on regulatory authorities to ban the manufacture and sale of products formulated with these two UV filters.
Threshold for the warning "Contains formaldehyde": request for the SCCS Opinion
Monday, February 22, 2021SCCS At what concentration in the finished product must the warning “Contains formaldehyde” appear on the label of a cosmetic? The regulation currently sets it at 0.05%, but this threshold could be reviewed: the European Commission has just asked the SCCS to re-evaluate it. The Scientific Committee accepted this mandate by written procedure on 12 February 2021.
