Development of a predictive tool for hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis/macrophage activation syndrome risk in adult-onset Still’s disease
Abstract Background: Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis/macrophage activation syndrome (HLH/MAS) is one of the most common complications of adult-onset Still’s disease (AOSD), and a leading cause of organ failure and mortality in these patients. Early diagnosis and management are crucial but can be challenging. Our study aims to develop a tool for predicting the risk of HLH/MAS in AOSD patients. Methods: The study recruited AOSD patients admitted to Ruijin Hospital from May 2018 to May 2024.
Identification of a metabolic–immune crosstalk in Still’s disease: monocyte/macrophage-derived immunometabolite itaconate dictates hepatic immunopathology via the CXCL10–CD8 T cell axis
Abstract Still’s disease (SD) is a chronic and systemic autoinflammatory disorder, with the possibility of resulting in life-threatening complications, including macrophage activation syndrome (MAS). The metabolic–immune interplay underlying the immunopathology of SD/MAS remains largely unexplored.
Advancing the diagnosis of fever of unknown origin: the role of genetic testing
Dear Editor Wright WF and colleagues provide a comprehensive and in-depth clinical update on fever of unknown origin (FUO), offering valuable insights for both clinical practice and research [1]. However, there are still certain aspects that warrant further exploration and supplementation. A critical consideration is that some cases of FUO are caused by rare genetic diseases, which can sometimes lead to severe complications such as haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) [2-4].
CD36 mediates SARS-CoV-2-envelope-protein-induced platelet activation and thrombosis - Nature Communications
Abstract Aberrant coagulation and thrombosis are associated with severe COVID-19 post-SARS-CoV-2 infection, yet the underlying mechanism remains obscure. Here we show that serum levels of SARS-CoV-2 envelope (E) protein are associated with coagulation disorders of COVID-19 patients, and intravenous administration of the E protein is able to potentiate thrombosis in mice.
