A new constitutive Foxl2-Cre mouse model reveals Foxl2 -derived cell fate in reproductive and non-reproductive tissues
FOXL2 is a highly conserved transcription factor that is essential for ovarian development and female fertility. In humans, FOXL2 mutations or deletions cause blepharophimosis, ptosis, and epicanthus inversus syndrome (BPES) leading to eyelid defects and, in BPES type I, primary ovarian insufficiency. BPES is also associated with a wide range of less common phenotypes such as craniofacial features, cleft palate, or heart defects.
Generation of a Nr2f2-driven inducible Cre mouse to target interstitial cells in the reproductive system
The orphan nuclear receptor Nr2f2, also known as COUP-TFII, play important roles in the development and function of multiple organs, including the reproductive system. NR2F2 is expressed in the interstitial cells of both embryonic and adult testes, ovaries, and reproductive tracts.
New uses for an old technique: live imaging on the slice organ culture to study reproductive processes
Reproductive processes are dynamic and involve extensive morphological remodeling and cell–cell interactions. Live imaging of organs enhances our understanding of how biological processes occur in real time. Slice culture is a type of organ culture where thick slices are collected from an organ and cultured for several days. Slice culture is a useful and easy-to-implement technique for live imaging of reproductive events at cellular resolution.
A tale of two tracts: history, current advances, and future directions of research on sexual differentiation of reproductive tracts†
Sexually dimorphic establishment of reproductive tracts is a critical step in developing reproductive tract organs anatomically and functionally distinct between male and female. Before sexual differentiation, an embryo possesses both female and male reproductive tract progenitors, which are also known as Müllerian and Wolffian ducts, respectively (Figure 1A).
