Interview
What was your first job as a journalist?
Editor/paginator for a town newspaper, making front pages and arts pages from local and wire copy.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
To me, it means helping our fellow humans make sense of the world around us, from the serious to the silly.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
I'm not high-strung, but I do like to know the basic expectations for format and scope. It's nice to hear from the editor behind the idea.
What's your favorite social network?
I run the Instagram for my magazine, so I have come to love the format and the possibilities. Visuals and text are powerful together here.
Why did you become a journalist?
As an only child, writing stories and recording audio were early ways of passing time and connecting to the outer world. I guess they stuck.
