Welcome to ‘the Age of Intermediate Care’
By Iain MacBeath and Ralph Cook | 28 April 2021 With increasing levels of frailty in our aging population, and higher expectations that people will want to go home rather than to care homes, this should be the era of the physiotherapist and occupational therapist, complemented with integrated nursing and care services and the latest technology. It is time for us to enter what our new report calls ‘the Age of Intermediate Care’.
Short-termism can be expensive
By Iain MacBeath | 04 November 2020 There is no dispute that COVID-19 has had a huge impact on adult social care. In the initial months we saw our care staff battle against an invisible foe that no-one understood, putting their own health at risk to support the people they care for. COVID-19: Hertfordshire’s support for care sector provides confidence for the future
By Iain MacBeath | 03 April 2020 While we can prepare and have contingency plans in place for many challenging scenarios, the circumstances being experienced right now are like nothing we could realistically have readied ourselves for. I've been in social care long enough to remember 'investment decisions'
Image: 5second By Iain MacBeath I’ve worked in adult care services for Hertfordshire county council for more than 11 years now – long enough to remember ‘investment’ decisions when I started as assistant director. Also long enough to remember then making some far more difficult decisions during the austerity years that have followed.
Integration health and social care in Hertfordshire
Featured article - 30 March 2016 By Iain Macbeath, Director of Health and Community Services, Hertfordshire County Council At SCIE we’re keen on encouraging health and social care integration so that people’s experiences and outcomes can be improved. Here we ask Iain Macbeath to tell us how this is being done in Hertfordshire. Integrating health and social care might seem a new concept to some, especially perhaps to those outside our sector.
