Stable isotope analysis of freshwater gastropod carbonates from Swanscombe: Insights into climate stability and seasonality during MIS 11c
Introduction Freshwater molluscan remains are abundant and well preserved in Quaternary fluvial sediments across Europe and are widely used in palaeoecological reconstruction and aminostratigraphy (Keen, 2001; Preece, 2001; Penkman et al., 2013, 2011; Antoine et al., 2015; Limondin-Lozouet et al., 2015; Tesakov et al., 2020).
Assessing the intensity of Late Quaternary humid phases in the Nefud Desert, northern Arabia
Introduction The Quaternary climate history of low-latitude dryland regions is characterised by humid phases, which correspond with insolation maxima, separated by prolonged arid intervals (McClure, 1976; Gaven et al., 1981; Szabo et al., 1995; Larrasoaña et al., 2003; Rosenberg et al., 2011; Grant et al., 2017; Nicholson et al., 2020).

Marine Isotope Stage 11c in Europe: Recent advances in marine-terrestrial correlations and their implications for interglacial stratigraphy - a review - Candy - Boreas - Wiley Online Library
The interglacial known as MIS 11c (c. 426 000–396 000 years ago) has long attracted intensive study from the palaeoclimate community (Droxler & Farrell 2000; Loutre & Berger 2003; Droxler et al. 2003a; Candy et al. 2014; Tzedakis et al. 2022). Much of the interest around MIS 11c is related to the fact that it was long regarded as the closest analogue to the current interglacial, based on the similarity in the orbital parameters of these two intervals (see Droxler et al. 2003a and references therein).
An Early Pleistocene hippopotamus from Westbury Cave, Somerset, England: support for a previously unrecognized temperate interval in the British Quaternary record
ABSTRACT Although fossil assemblages from the late Early Pleistocene are very rare in Britain, the site of Westbury Cave in Somerset, England, has the potential to address this gap. The mammal fossils recovered previously from the Siliceous Member in Westbury Cave, though few in number, have hinted at an age for the deposits that is as yet unparalleled in Britain.
The expansion of Acheulean hominins into the Nefud Desert of Arabia
Abstract The Arabian Peninsula is a critical geographic landmass situated between Africa and the rest of Eurasia. Climatic shifts across the Pleistocene periodically produced wetter conditions in Arabia, dramatically altering the spatial distribution of hominins both within and between continents. This is particularly true of Acheulean hominins, who appear to have been more tethered to water sources than Middle Palaeolithic hominins.
Continuity of the Middle Stone Age into the Holocene
Abstract The African Middle Stone Age (MSA, typically considered to span ca. 300–30 thousand years ago [ka]), represents our species’ first and longest lasting cultural phase. Although the MSA to Later Stone Age (LSA) transition is known to have had a degree of spatial and temporal variability, recent studies have implied that in some regions, the MSA persisted well beyond 30 ka.
