Interview

What was your first job as a journalist?

I wrote concert reviews for blogTO, a local Toronto publication.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes. In fact, I own one.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

For me, being a journalist means working in service of your readers to ensure they informed and entertained.

Who do you wish followed you?

I would love if some more of my peers in the industry followed me on Bluesky.

Why did you become a journalist?

I joke I doubled majored in unemployment (English Literature and Art History). So it was either become a journalist or school teacher.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

I did not. I only discovered my love for journalism and storytelling after university.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Write more and diversity your skill set. Mastering the craft takes a lot of time, patience and effort.

What's the worst pitch you ever got?

There have been too many to count.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

My favorite publications to read are The Verge and Polygon. For developer news, I go to the YouTube channel Fireship.
