1 Introduction Mpox is a zoonotic viral disease that was first identified in 1958 in a Danish laboratory, where it appeared among captive monkeys [1]. It was then diagnosed in a 9-month-old baby in 1970 in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) [2]. For the next five decades, sporadic outbreaks occurred, and the virus became endemic in parts of Central and West Africa [3]. Despite its long presence in African communities, mpox remained a relatively neglected disease globally.
