Electrochemical Synthesis of Isolated Fluoride Reagents from PFAS Click to copy article link Article link copied!
Introduction Click to copy section linkSection link copied! Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are an anthropogenic class of compounds that are, uniquely, both hydrophobic and lipophobic, which renders them resistant to both water and oil. The very strong C–F bonds provide extremely high chemical inertness and thermal stability. This set of properties has led to a rapid expansion in nonstick and heat and chemical resistant applications.

Objects and Museal Rhetoric
Abstract Rhetoricians of public memory are interested in materiality. Simultaneously, they seek to recover, promote, and commemorate historically marginalized populations. These twin objectives form a paradox: how does one study public memory in contexts where material manifestations are limited or lost to history? What of peoples and cultures whose histories of erasure have left them with insufficient material to stock a traditional museum?
“Your Spirit Fires My Breast”: Maria Stewart and the Political Potential of the Feminine Rhetorical Sublime
Abstract The political potential of sublime rhetoric has been contested in recent scholarship. Is the sublime the ultimate in political rhetoric, or politically useless? Either way, that conversation has typically elided emerging literature on the feminine sublime in favor of traditional concepts.
Upon Seeing a Student Carry Two Swords Across the Campus Courtyard

Thoughts, in Threes
Keywords 2023 BYU Studies Poetry Contest Abstract Between husband and wife, a vow. Between past and present, the now. Recommended Citation Richards, Isaac James (2023) "Thoughts, in Threes," BYU Studies Quarterly: Vol. 62: Iss. 3, Article 15. Available at: https://scholarsarchive.byu.edu/byusq/vol62/iss3/15
To Make the Attempt
Keywords 2023 BYU Studies poetry contest, prayer, testimony Abstract Fall, not spring. Idaho, not New York. Dusk, not dawn. Still, a prayer Recommended Citation Richards, Isaac James (2023) "To Make the Attempt," BYU Studies Quarterly: Vol. 62: Iss. 2, Article 12. "Shot Glass Sprout at Utah Lake" by Isaac James Richards
This tiny sprout of life is emerging from the confines of a shot glass found on the west shore of Utah Lake. I took this photograph while volunteering on a Saturday morning service project. The project was led by a partnership between the Utah Lake Authority and Vineyard City. I personally filled an entire trash bag with popcorn bags, aluminum cans, styrofoam, plywood, and plenty of other trash and garbage items.
