Statistical analysis Prevalence (% host infected) and abundances (total number of parasites per total number of examined hosts sampled, infected and uninfected) were calculated according to the definitions of Bush et al. (1997). Mean abundance is expressed ± standard deviation. We used abundance and not intensity because, although all individuals had metacercariae in the foot, 17 had no metacercariae in the siphon.
