Astrophysics > High Energy Astrophysical Phenomena
IceCube has detected a diffuse flux of high-energy astrophysical neutrinos. While its astrophysical origin is unknown, a significant neutrino emission has been observed from the gamma-ray blazar TXS 0506+056 and the Seyfert galaxy NGC 1068. This suggests accretion by supermassive black holes as one of the candidate mechanisms of the diffuse neutrino flux.
Challenges and strategies for globally resilient shrimp aquaculture
Abstract Blue Foods from aquaculture and fishing vessels are essential for global diets and economies, yet shrimp aquaculture faces mounting challenges in supply, disease, climate, and market sustainability. This review analyses global shrimp aquaculture systems, identifies key resource flows and sectoral stressors, and presents five resilience strategies.
Cyclobutrifluram controls pacific shoot‐gall disease in annual bluegrass putting greens
IPM integrated pest management SDH succinate dehydrogenase SDHI succinate dehydrogenase inhibitor 1 INTRODUCTION Annual bluegrass (Poa annua L.) is the predominant turfgrass species throughout most of the world, especially in Mediterranean climates like California (Kauffman, 2003; Mitich, 1998). This species is particularly prevalent in cool, coastal areas where it has a competitive advantage over bentgrass (Agrostis spp.) on putting greens.
Spatial extent as a sensitive amyloid‐PET metric in preclinical Alzheimer's disease
1 BACKGROUND Recent clinical trials have demonstrated that anti-amyloid beta (Aβ) treatments that remove Aβ pathology slow Alzheimer's disease (AD) progression and clinical decline,1-4 but emerging evidence suggests their efficacy was strongest when applied earlier in the disease continuum while tau pathology was in early phases of deposition.2 This suggests that anti-Aβ treatment may be most effective when used preventively by targeting individuals with the first signs of Aβ, before the...
Performance of biological and chemical nematicides in different soils to control Meloidogyne incognita in tomato plants
1 INTRODUCTION Plant-parasitic nematodes are among the most important soil-borne pathogens limiting crop productivity. A decade ago, crops' annual unachieved economic potential due to plant-parasitic nematodes was estimated at $173 billion globally and $13 billion in the USA (Elling, 2013). Processing tomato is one of the top 10 California commodities, grown on about 245,000 acres with a 2021 value of US$1.18 billion (https://www.cdfa.ca.gov/Statistics/).
Spin-charge correlations in finite one-dimensional multiband Fermi systems
We investigate spin-charge separation of a spin-12 Fermi system confined in a triple well where multiple bands are occupied. We assume that our finite fermionic system is close to fully spin polarized while being doped by a hole and an impurity fermion with opposite spin. Our setup involves ferromagnetic couplings among the particles in different bands, leading to the development of strong spin-transport correlations in an intermediate interaction regime.

Dynamical Classification of Trans-Neptunian Objects Detected by the Dark Energy Survey
The outer solar system contains a large number of small bodies (known as trans-Neptunian objects or TNOs) that exhibit diverse types of dynamical behavior. The classification of bodies in this distant region into dynamical classes—subpopulations that experience similar orbital evolution—aids in our understanding of the structure and formation of the solar system. In this work, we propose an updated dynamical classification scheme for the outer solar system.

The cortical origin and initial spread of medial temporal tauopathy in Alzheimer’s disease assessed with positron emission tomography
Targeting TAU where it originates Positron emission tomography (PET) has been shown to be effective in detecting TAU depositions in the brain of patients with Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Now, Sanchez et al. applied an automated method to quantify TAU progression in patients with AD at different stages. The authors found that TAU signal emerges first in the rhinal cortex independently of Aβ. Subsequent TAU elevation in the temporal neocortex was associated with age, Aβ, and APOE status.

Evaluation of real world treatment outcomes in patients with metastatic merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) following second line chemotherapy
Background: MCC is a rare, cutaneous, neuroendocrine tumor. MCC is an aggressive disease associated with frequent locoregional recurrences and visceral metastases, and a high mortality rate. This retrospective observational study aimed to assess treatment outcomes among second line (2L) or later chemotherapy in a real-world setting to better understand treatment pathways and prognosis in distant metastatic MCC patients (pts).
