Great genes - The New Criterion
On May 3 of this year, a horse named Sovereignty won the 151st Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs. My father had been a fan of “the sport of kings,” and he passed the fancy on to me and my brother, Richard. After the race, Richard and I spoke on the phone, and I was rather startled to find that on the track there was a field of nineteen three-year-old thoroughbreds racing that day who all had one thing in common. Each of them was descended from Secretariat, arguably the greatest horse in history.

Roger McGuinn's Folk Den
We Shall Not Be Moved is a lovely spiritual from the Southern churches in the 1800’s. It was extremely hard to find the original lyrics because for years it had been rewritten as a union song. The text is based on biblical scripture: Happy Juneteenth!!! Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.

You’re thinking, “Are you finding any cavities in there? How’s the filling holding up on that back molar?” But you put up with it and act like you enjoy it. Yes, you too are a MAD PASSIONATE LOVER because you trust that all this orifacial (note to self: add to dictionary?) slurping and sloshing is leading to THE BIG YOU-KNOW-WHAT.
