What was your first job as a journalist?

Staff writer for the New York Observer.

How is social media changing news?

Killing the concept of a front page, encouraging institutions to dilute their brand, holding us accountable to real engagement.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

Things happen in the world. People expect you to tell them what those things are.

What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?

#thiscouldbeusbutyouplaying, and if you don't think that's a news hashtag, you're not trying hard enough.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Wordpress, Scrivener, Zoom H1, Zoom H4n, Canon 70D, Rode VideoMic, MacBook, Netbook, iPhone, Paper, Black Pen, Advil

What's your favorite social network?

Facebook. Everything else will come and go, for now..

Who do you wish followed you?

A small drone with Instagram and a stun gun.

Why did you become a journalist?

Journalism needs all the help it can get.
