What was your first job as a journalist?
I was hired as a reporter at Citywire USA with no journalism experience but equipped with subject-matter expertise in finance.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes - in third grade!
How is social media changing news?
It is democratizing access to news, increasing speed, challenging us to exercise critical thinking, unlocking new audiences of all ages.

What does it mean to be a journalist?
Giving voice to the voiceless.
What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?
#BBCdad -- now that we're all working from home...
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
A clear message of why the idea is a surprise, who/what is impacted, and why it matters.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
I use excel to analyze and interpret large data sets, Adobe Premiere to edit video and Adobe Illustrator to design graphics.

Why did you become a journalist?
To investigate, analyze, and report key issues in business that impact people's lives and make complex matters, digestible and impactful.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I did not, but I was a member of the speech team where I wrote and delivered 8 minute speeches, memorized!
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
The story on gasoline hitting $1. It incorporated the complexity of the oil price crash and its impact on everyday people and the economy.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Don't take no for an answer, trust your instincts, always back up with data, embrace mistakes, and ask yourself "am I proud of this story?"

Walking around NYC, baking, or trying a new restaurant with friends.

That financial news is only for traders, CEOs, or fund managers.
