— By Jake Munday, Co-Founder and CEO of Custom Neon The signage industry is in a stronger position than it has been in years, and the reason has less to do with signs than with what stores are now for. The global digital signage market was worth approximately 31 billion US dollars in 2025 and is forecast to reach 58 billion by 2033. The experiential retail market, sat at about 133 billion in 2025 and is growing, and projected to continue at almost 15 percent a year until 2030.
Custom Neon started quite opportunistically in 2018, when Jake and Jess Munday were looking to buy a sign for their new baby's bedroom. 6 years later, Custom Neon is now a $12 million company. I always knew I was destined to be an entrepreneur. With my father, uncle, and pop all running successful businesses, I was exposed to the realities of entrepreneurship from an early age. I quickly learned that hard work pays off.
My wife Jess and I were not planning on starting a company when the idea for Custom Neon came into our lives. Jess was on maternity leave with our first baby from a role that she loved and fully intended to return to. I was already running a very successful teeth-whitening e-commerce business. But then, we tried to purchase a custom neon sign for my son’s room and found it more difficult than we anticipated.
In this episode of Add To Cart, we are joined by Jake and Jess Munday, Co founders of Custom Neon, who make and sell LED neon signs in any size, shape and colour you like. Starting out as a side hustle on Instagram, the company now sell around 400 signs a week, has offices in the UK, Australia and the USA and their client list includes Elon Musk and Kylie and Kendall Jenner.
