What was your first job as a journalist?

I anchored my high school news WGET.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

No, but my wife has one that is currently out of commission.

How is social media changing news?

I wasn't in news before it came about. So, I'm probably not qualified to weigh in on this one.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

Journalism is the freedom of speech. The ability to speak truth to power and shine light on what is often hidden away from the public eye.

What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?

I can't say I've ever seen a funny one.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

LobbyTools is great for covering the Florida Legislature and state government.

Why did you become a journalist?

I felt like I'm good at understanding all sides of issues and presenting them in a fair way that puts the strongest arguments forward.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

Not the paper, but I anchored for our high school TV station WGET.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Breathe.

What's your favorite drink?

Water.
