Hot Cross Buns Without Overnight Rise
Full question Do you have to do the overnight rise for the Hot Cross Buns in the fridge? Photo by James Merrell Hot Cross Buns Our answer Nigella's recipe for Hot Cross Buns (from FEAST) has the first rise for the bun dough in the fridge overnight. This means that you can make the dough the night before and then just take it out of the fridge on Good Friday morning, shape, prove and bake the buns. However, it is possible to make and bake the buns on the same day.
Chocolate-Topped Banana Cake
Print me Introduction I can never throw away old, overripe bananas, and although I have many recipes for using them up, I enjoy coming up with new ways, and really wanted, here, a proper cake - delicious though any banana bread is. I used rum in the topping, but you could easily use all water, dispensing with the rum altogether. Similarly, should you have no brown sugar to hand, just use regular white sugar. For US cup measures, use the toggle at the top of the ingredients list.

Chocolate Guinness Wedding Cake
Full question Hi, I am getting married in Italy in July and I would like to have the Chocolate Guinness Cake as my wedding cake. I really need help with scaling the recipe for a 3 tier cake for 80 people. I would also like to have each tier divided into 2 layers with a filling in the middle. Since the cake is pretty moist, should I add more flour to be able to do it? Many thanks for your help.
Rococoa Cake
Print me Introduction Forgive the whimsy of its naming, but every time I've tried to rename this cake, I veer back to this. I used to refer to it as Venetian chocolate cake, because its inspiration comes from a cake of that name in Nick Malgieri's luscious chocolate book but as my cake changed from his specifications, the title seemed misleading.
Quick Cook Leek Orzotto with Asparagus, Hazelnuts and Rocket
Print me Introduction This is such a pretty spring dish, perfect for a light dinner or weekend lunch with friends - and a good way to use up asparagus if you've overbought in season. Use blanched almonds if you haven't got hazelnuts - you need the crunch to finish off the dish. Note: This dish, like most, lives or dies by the seasoning you add at the end - taste and adjust the lemon and salt to your taste until it's just perfect.
Breakfast Bars
Print me Introduction I am addicted to these, and so is everyone I give them to. Although they're quick to throw together, they do take nearly an hour to bake, so what I suggest is, make a batch at the weekend and then you will have the oaty, chewy bars ready and waiting for those days when you have to snatch breakfast on the hoof. Mind you, they are just like milk and cereal in bar form, so there's nothing to stop you nibbling at one with your morning coffee at home every day.
The Long, Forgotten Walk of David Ingram
If three shipwrecked English sailors really did travel by foot from Florida to Nova Scotia in 1569 then it would certainly count as one of the most remarkable walks undertaken in recorded history. Although the account’s more fantastical elements, such as the sighting of elephants, have spurred many to consign it to the fiction department, John Toohey argues for a second look.
Keralan Fish Curry
A very tasty fish curry soup. However, it was a bit too spicy so next time I will use less chillies. I use fresh cod fillet and added fresh cilantro/coriander at the end. I know the recipe asked for 2 3/4 lb fish but I only had 2 lbs which in the end I found to be more than enough. Also, if you want this dish to be less soupy and more thick, I would fill cup that has the coconut milk/tamarind/fish stock to maybe equal 2 cups instead of 1 litre. 1 litre is about 4 1/4 cups.

AD Remembers Decorating Legend Betty Sherrill | Architectural Digest
Betty Sherrill, who died on Monday at the age of 91, was American decorating’s grande dame, the chairman of McMillen Inc. , the country’s oldest operating interior design firm, which she ran from 1972 until 2002. Petite, perennially blonde, and flirtatious yet steely, the former Betty Lewis Stevens was the child of a Louisiana plantation aristocrat and a New Orleans engineer/contractor. In 1949 she relocated to New York City, following a surprise marriage to H.
Pasta With Anchovy Sauce
Print me Introduction I know that people feel very strongly about anchovies, but this is guaranteed - as much as one can guarantee anything - to overcome the most squealing of prejudices. Do not think of that salty dried-up thing that curls up and dies on top of cheap takeaway pizzas: the anchovies here are mellow and, with the soft-cooked onions, have a savoury but honeyed intensity - not strong, just deep-toned and harmonious.
