Jamila Cupid’s Biography
Dr. Jamila Cupid is an international scholar, author, and orator. Her areas of study and practice include public relations, digital media, mass media, organizational culture, inclusion, equity, and belonging.
She wrote "Who's in the Room?: A Guide to Public Relations from the Black Professional Perspective" (Kendall Hunt, 2025), with media strategist Myescha Joell and built on four years of research. Her current scholarship introduces cultural translation capital, a framework for valuing cultural fluency as a measurable organizational asset.
Cupid built her career in public relations agencies in New York and Washington, DC. She has taught the practice at Lincoln University, where she earned early tenure and designed the strategic communications curriculum, Shippensburg University, and Pepperdine University. As a scholar-practitioner, she advises organizations on developing their culture for optimal retention and she empowers professionals to achieve a sense of belonging while avoiding burnout.
She holds a Ph.D. in Mass Communication and Media Studies from Howard University, M.A. in Human Communication from Howard University, and B.A. in English from Boston University.
