West does not fully understand China, nor fully evaluate its potential
Editor's note: Jan Zahradil is a former member of the European Parliament. The video reflects the interviewee's opinions and not necessarily the views of CGTN. The story of the People's Republic of China, particularly during the last 30 to 40 years, is an unprecedented story of human development, progress, and success achieved in a very short period of time.
Český atlantismus čtvrt století po sezóně
ÚHEL POHLEDU: Bill Clinton na návštěvě v Praze. A pár dní před ním Viktor Orbán na návštěvě u Donalda Trumpa. Tyto dvě návštěvy symbolicky a výstižně rámují, kam se za poslední čtvrt století posunuly transatlantické vztahy. Clinton v Praze, to bylo nostalgické vzývání pozdních devadesátek, kdy nás brali do NATO, na Hradě seděl Václav Havel a ve State Department úřadovala česká rodačka Madeleine Albrightová.
Jan Zahradil: Idea Spitzenkandidat powoli umiera

[Opinion] Macron is confusing rigidity with strength
Well, that was how Emmanuel Macron chose to spin the synchronised publication of his opinion article in several different European outlets. Jan Zahradil: "Macron is right on one thing: Europe needs to change" (Photo: European Parliament) Clearly keen to discuss something other than the 'Yellow Vest' crisis on his doorstep, he styled his billet doux as a plea for an EU renaissance. Now, "renaissance" is a word that means different things to different people.
[Opinion] EPP Spitzen-race: choice between Coke Light and Coke Zero
For me, as a Czech MEP elected in 2004, the EU was an opportunity to build upon all the principles I thought European integration represented: the single market, free trade, and the four fundamental freedoms. We were pre-economic crisis, pre-Lisbon treaty, pre-migration crisis, pre-Brexit, and the air was electrified with opportunity. However, it was not long before the EU started to buckle under the weight of its own ambitions.
EU must engage with Azerbaijan or Putin will
Azerbaijan’s strategic yet precarious geopolitical location and situation are such that the country deserves EU support, especially in light of growing tensions with Russia and Iran, writes Jan Zahradil MEP. Jan Zahradil (ECR, Czech Republic), is Vice Chairman of the European Parliament’s Committee on International Trade (INTA) and President of the Alliance of Conservatives and Reformists in Europe (ACRE).
[Opinion] Is this the future of Europe?
This week the European Parliament held yet another Future of Europe debate. This time with the possibly soon to be departing Luxembourg prime minister.
Give citizens more control to make Europe an engine of growth for all | View
The fastest growing economies today are in the global south and east, while countries in Europe have grown slowly – if at all – over the last ten years. Looking to the future there is a substantial risk that the economies in the EU will continue to grow slowly even after the primary causes of the economic crisis have disappeared. The expectations of low European growth will affect investment decisions, which in turn will affect future growth of our continent.
Environmentalism starts with loving our own | The Conservative Online
Environmentalism has all the hallmarks of a Left-wing cause: a class of victims (future generations), an enlightened vanguard which fights for them (the eco-warriors), powerful philistines who exploit them (the capitalists), and endless opportunities to express resentment against the successful, the wealthy and the West.
Parliament has 'supreme responsibility' on TTIP
I have always been a supporter of open and fair trade and investment flows. The 'openness' I refer to means either full or partial elimination of tariffs and non-tariff barriers to trade and investment flows at once, or over an agreed transitional period. The 'fairness' stems from the rules based pillar structure that sustains the common commercial policy (CCP). The multilateral pillar on which the CCP rests is the world trade organisation (WTO).
