Interview
What does it mean to be a journalist?
People depend on me to curate the deluge of data that exists and serve high-quality news. That is one of today's most important jobs.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
With grace, understanding, and humour.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
Google Docs for script writing, Adobe Premiere for video editing, CallU for call recording.
What's your favorite social network?
I love Twitter for the humour, spontaneity, and the energy.
Who do you wish followed you?
Maybe Rihanna?
Why did you become a journalist?
I wanted to improve the quality of news in my country.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I did not! I only began my journalism career recently. I wish I had, though!
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Set aside ego - that way you cannot be intimidated or embarrassed. Your quest is for the truth, nothing less.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
At the beach doing yoga, teaching my son to swim, or just soaking up the sun.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
I loved David Fahrenthold's reporting in the Washington Post. Besides that, Mother Jones and ProPublica offer excellent reading.
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
That it is "dry" or boring.
