How is social media changing news?

Social media makes it far too easy to perpetuate "news" by unsupported, biased writers. BEWARE: Always look at author credibility/reputation.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

I love the Google suite!

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Try to connect the heart (motives, hopes, intent) of the individuals you are interviewing with that of the reader.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

I'm most likely to be found on a cozy rug, surrounded by old maps, family trees, news articles and other artifacts to help me research.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

I love Wild West magazine!

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

Myth: Profile pieces aren't "news." Preserving life stories and local culture are very important tasks for journalists.
