What was your first job as a journalist?
I wrote for the Badger Herald at the University of Wisconsin.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes. I learned how to type on a typewriter.
How is social media changing news?
Social media allows everyone with access to the internet to have their say. Providing information has never been easier.

What does it mean to be a journalist?
Being a journalist means providing information and context to others so they can better understand the world around them.
What's your favorite social network?
I use linkedin extensively.
Who do you wish followed you?
I want all the investment adviser compliance officers toiling in the trenches to follow me.
Why did you become a journalist?
I enjoy writing and I am passionate about helping my fellow compliance officers face common issues.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I worked for my high school newspaper as a reporter and copy editor.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
I am proud of "7 Ugly Truths About Compliance: a Primer for new Chief Compliance Officers." It was one of my first attempts at a blog post.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Find your audience and speak to it. Your goal is to provide them with new information in a way that is meaningful.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
If the weather is nice, on my bike. If the weather is cold, sitting in front of the fire reading a book.

That regulatory compliance can be relegated solely to the compliance officer.
