Abstract Despite numerous studies and literature reviews, the social housing of laboratory mice is still under debate. Aggression and social stress can lead to physiological and behavioral alterations, especially in male mice, whereas single housing is a potential source of discomfort, particularly in female mice. This multicenter study aimed to assess the impact of single versus group housing on severity in both sexes and to examine whether a general recommendation could be made.

Poverty and fragility: Where will the poor live in 2030?

The world is experiencing a tipping point in its fight against poverty. By 2022, more than half of the world’s people living in extreme poverty will be living in fragile states, according to projections by World Data Lab. There are currently 39 fragile states that the World Bank classifies as “countries with high levels of institutional and social fragility” and “affected by violent conflict.” They are home to almost 1 billion people, 335 million of which lived in extreme poverty in 2020.

Africa: The last frontier for eradicating extreme poverty

Today is the International Day for the Eradication of Extreme Poverty. Recent stories about a “new poverty narrative” for the 21st century have captured world headlines. Whether discussing Nigeria, India, or the tipping point of the new global middle class, economists now broadly agree on one central theme: If we want to end poverty, we need to focus on Africa. Under current projections, 88 percent of the world’s poorest are expected to live in Africa (some 414 million people) by 2030.
