What was your first job as a journalist?
Working for an American website writing feature articles on up and coming female hip-hop artists.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
No sadly I haven't.
How is social media changing news?
Through more discussions being had, how people access your stories and how you find them.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Lois Lane because she really cares about her stories.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
It means holding those in power to account, changing lives and raising important issues.
What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?
I can't really think of any I've come across.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
I prefer to be sent a brief summary of the story along with a contact number and name.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
Mostly a word doc and a notepad before using an online system to upload and a print system.
What's your favorite social network?
Facebook
Who do you wish followed you?
Anthony Hopkins because he does more than just act.
Why did you become a journalist?
To make a difference to underserved communities, spark change, and give a voice to those untold stories.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
No I didn't.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
A story on a couple who were concerned over their son's health due to mould in their property. I was able to get them moved to a new home.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Keep going even if it's seems too hard because there are moments where you do make a difference.
When's the best time to pitch you?
Usually first thing in the morning as long as it's Bolton related. But if it's towards the end of the day I can pick it up the next morning.
What's the best pitch you ever got?
A victim of an assault at their taxi base.
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
Someone who had brought a broken item at a shop and couldn't get a refund because they had no receipt. They hadn't spoken to the retailer.
What's your favorite drink?
When it's not alcohol it's typically water or coffee. My favourite alcoholic drinks are usually wine, gin, or margaritas.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Writing stories, yoga, meditating, watching TV, or spending time with family and friends.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
The Guardian, The Independent, the BBC, Sky News, Tyla, and LADbible Group.
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
There isn't one I'm really aware of.
