Wednesday Weather Alert: Tracking snow and rain
BRRR We have another day of wintry temperatures. Most towns started in the singles and teens this morning. Highs will only rise to the mid and upper 20s, so dress for FREEZING weather all day. Mostly sunny skies are expected with late day clouds. We have a brief batch of flurries coming through between 10 PM and 2 AM that could lead to a patchy dusting on untreated surfaces. WEDNESDAY ALERT We have Weather Alert tomorrow for the second half of the day. The morning and midday hours look dry.
Snow showers bring more cold
|
WINTRY WEEK It’ll be cold enough to start the day, Thursday with temperatures in the 20s, some teens northwest of Worcester. Highs will reach into the 30s. A cold front will sweep across the region Thursday afternoon with some passing clouds and the chance for flurries and snow squalls. Don’t expect accumulations, though a patchy coating is possible. Winds will gust 30-50 mph, result in wind chills in the teens and single numbers Thursday evening. Cold, arctic air will peak Friday.

Bright today, rain Monday
|
NOT AS WINDY TODAY It’s a crisp and bright start to our Sunday across the Boston area! Temperatures are off to a chilly start, but we’ll rebound into the low to mid-50s this afternoon. The good news — it won’t be nearly as breezy as the past few days. That makes today a great one for getting outside to rake leaves or enjoy some late fall sunshine. Be sure to take in the daylight while you can — sunset is now at 4:36 PM! The evenings are getting darker earlier as we settle deeper into November.

|
HERE COMES THE RAIN We’re off to a sprinkly start this Thursday. Rainfall during the day will be light and patchy. There will be dry and cloudy times too, as temperatures sit in the 50s all day. Heavy, steady rain will develop during the evening commute and continue overnight with gusts 30-35 mph. We’re looking at 1-2″ widespread rain with localized totals up to 3″ or 4″ in southern New England. Nuisance flooding is possible where drains become clogged by leaves.

COOL AND QUIET WEEKEND
|
WEEKEND FORECAST High pressure north of New England will provide us with cooler than average temperatures much of this weekend. Overall, we’ll see highs in the mid 50s today with light winds along with a blend of sunshine and a few clouds. Overnight tonight skies will clear enough to allow temps to dip into the 30s for most with a few 20s showing up in the traditionally cooler spots...some patchy frost is likely.

FALL FEEL RETURNS Expect a late October chill in the air as we close in on the end of the work week. Thursday will present lows in the low 40s and highs in the 50s under sunny skies. Breeziness will make it feel a bit cooler though! The chill will peak Friday morning with frost and freeze emerging in some locations. A Freeze Watch is in effect away from the coast where the growing season is still in effect.

LOW MIDWEEK RAIN CHANCE Clouds will increase today with low pressure lifting our way from the south. Plan on morning 50s and afternoon low to mid 70s. An isolated shower may reach the south coastline of MA during the day, but it’s unlikely we’ll see much more until the evening or later! The low will remain offshore, but will swing some scattered showers through tonight and Thursday morning. Rainfall will be lacking and patchy north of the Mass Pike.

Air quality alert: Canadian wildfire smoke thick across Massachusetts today
|
SMOKY SKIES AHEAD Canadian wildfire smoke will stay thick across the region today. It will lead to a very filtered, subdued sky today. Without that smoke, we’d be talking pure sunshine! Plan on highs in the low to mid-80s at the coast and close to 90 inland. Please keep in mind the Air Quality Alert if you’re active outside today. Smoke won’t be as thick on Tuesday and Wednesday, but will continue to fuel a filtered look. A wind shift will draw cooler marine air into the local beaches.

STORMS POSSIBLE THURSDAY Thursday will be unsettled in spots during the day. We’re not expecting widespread rain, but hit-or-miss downpours and thunderstorms will be around. The bigger threat is in the evening when a cold front brings the possibility of strong storms with heavy rain, lightning and brief gusty wind with any cell that passes through. Weather Alert: Torrential rain, flood concerns for morning commute
|
TORRENTIAL RAIN A Weather Alert will last all morning for localized flooding. Torrential rain is expected during the morning commute, almost certainly slowing down your drive into work. Some towns will see 2-4″ rainfall, possibly more in one or two spots. Street, stream, and low-lying flooding will occur in those towns, if not flash flooding. Be especially careful for flooding in underpasses. Never drive into a flooded roadway. The afternoon will gradually dry out from west to east.
